Las Palmas vs Girona
Spanish La Liga
Date: Saturday, 19 May 2018
Kick-Off at 17:30 UK / 18:30 CET
Venue: Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Girona promoted into genuine contenders for Europa League in their maiden season in the top flight of the Spanish football, but they won just one point in last four league ties to drop down to the bottom half of the standings instead. The Catalans still have the chance to finish the season on a high and try and break back into the top half with a win over the already-relegated Las Palmas side on Saturday evening away at Estadio de Gran Canaria.
The Canaries are winless in last 15 matches in the league and they lost as many as seven of last eight coming into the final day. Scoring goals has been their biggest issue of late since Las Palmas notched only one in last six league affairs. Girona are generally known to be an outfit capable of producing strong defensive performances, meaning we’d not be surprised to see the visitors keeping things tight at the back here.
Las Palmas vs Girona: Head-to-head
The two sides met each other just once in Primera Division, and Girona destroyed Las Palmas 6-0 in that clash back in January this year.
They’ve been battling it out in Segunda Division previously and the Canaries were the more successful side in these outings.
Las Palmas lead the head to head tie by three wins coming into their 16th encounter with Girona.
Girona won just one of seven matches at Estadio de Gran Canaria.
Las Palmas vs Girona: Prediction
Pablo Machin’s side had a very disappointing end to the campaign in La Liga, but the clash with Las Palmas should really provide them an opportunity to rise and pick up the victory to confirm the generally strong impression they left in the first ever campaign in Primera Division.
Girona bagged as many as six goals in the thumping of Las Palmas in January. Whilst we don’t expect a similar trashing in the reverse fixture, the away win still looks to be a very likable option and is certainly worth backing at the 2.25 odds.
Christian Stuani was the standout performer for Girona this season. He has a chance to take his league tally to 20+ with a goal against the side with the second-worst defensive record in the entire competition. We’ll back the Uruguayan forward to boost up his confidence ahead of the World Cup challenges and score anytime at the odds of 1.90.
Las Palmas vs Girona: Bet Tips
