Cameroon will travel to Asia to take on Kuwait in a low-profile friendly on Sunday at Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium. Neither of two sides has been successful in the recently finished WC Qualifications and they will be hoping to end negative runs of results here.
The Indomitable Lions have disappointed the football public in Africa with a rather dismal campaign in the final round of African WC Qualifications. Cameroon only came third in the Group B (only the top side booked the spot at the World Cup in Russia) with seven points in six matches under Hugo Broos. The Belgian manager resigned right after the dismal campaign and it was team’s legendary center back Rigobert Song who led the squad in January’s African Nations Championship.
It was another unsuccessful adventure for the Cameroonians who have failed to claim more than a single point in three group stage games). The match with the likes of Kuwait should finally provide an opportunity for the Africans to bounce back and clinch their first win in five outings. Vincent Aboubakar is team’s star man. He has been enjoying a thrilling season with Porto so far (15 goals in 23 appearances in Primeira Liga) and he should be the biggest threat to Kuwait’s goal.
The hosts could not go beyond the second round of Asian WC Qualifications ending behind the likes of Lebanon. The Blues have huge issues with the efficiency in the final third as they have only scored a single goal in last ten matches in all competitions.
