FC Koln vs Freiburg: Match Preview
The Billy Goats were swept aside as their four-game winning run ended abruptly on last Friday’ evening at Signal Iduna Park after a 5:1 defeat to a rampaging Borussia Dortmund.
Koln successfully clawed their way out of danger and possible return to second division, but their fight is far from over. They are currently 14th in the standings, just three points off first team below the line. There is way too much football to be played so Markus Gisdol and his lads are not our of woods just yet.
Their home form varies massively. After three opening defeats and few more stumbles, the Billy Goats finally found their groove and recently went on a run that still stands; they’ve won their last three outings in front of their own fans, extending unbeaten run to four.
Freiburg suffered a defeat in the first home fixture of 2020 as SC Paderborn ran out 2-0 winners and despite playing more than half an hour with man down, Red & Blacks were unable to break down the Paderborn’s defense.
Christian Streich had his men going on multiple unconquered streaks but come December, their form dipped, and they’ve slipped to eighth step on Bundesliga ladder but there’s still more than enough time for recovery and Europa League hunt.
They were nothing short of brilliant on the road in beginnings of the season but ever since that dreaded December slump, Red & Blacks became icky, with signs of improvement shining through recently; they were on the verge of victory in Gelsenkirchen and took all the spoils at Mainz.
Four unknowns for Gisdol as few of his pupils are close to full recovery; Julian Krahl, Lasse Sobiech, Matthias Bader and Christian Clemens though it is quite possible neither will be fit enough to face Freiburg.
Similar story for our guests, Yoric Ravet and Lukas Küblerare slowly getting back to full strength but Sunday might be too early for either to see the greens of the pitch again.

FC Koln vs Freiburg: Prediction
Neither of these sides has been goal-shy in their last couple of encounters so there’s no reason to believe they’ll suddenly stop thrilling us.
Both of these teams are capable of scoring and conceding multiple goals so here’s to another entertaining afternoon at RheinEnergieStadion; don’t disappoint us, guys.
Also, I’m willing to back Jhon Cordoba to get into scoresheet on Sunday. He’s been magnanimous, brilliant to watch in the last couple of games, especially in front of Koln’s fans so I believe he’ll continue his run and put at least one in against Freiburg.
