Sporting Kansas City vs Montreal Impact
Major League Soccer
Date: Sunday, 11th June 2017
Kick-off at 1:00 UK/ 2:00 CET
Venue: Children’s Mercy Park (Kansas City).
Is this the season of glory for Sporting Kansas City? It has been happy days for the SKC fans as we approach the first half of the 2017 Major League Soccer season. The Wizards have been one of the most reliable side in the tournament so far and are relinquishing a the top of the Western Conference table.
The home form has been the key factor to their success so far and are arguably the best team in whole of MLS with an unbeaten record and a commendable defensive record. SKC picked up 6 wins and 1 draw from their 7 matches at the Children’s Mercy Park scoring 16 goals, while letting in just 2. This involves five clean sheets and they haven’t let a goal past in the last four at home. However, just like any typical MLS team, Kansas have a poor away record, which is irrelevant for this fixture.
The last year’s finalists Montreal are trying to repair the damages owing to a poor start to the campaign. They won 3 of the last four, while losing one, but they still remain 1 spot above the foot of the Eastern Conference table. Their season haven’t kicked-off as expected at both home and away fixtures and need a massive improvement to strengthen the bid for a play-off spot.
Away from home, the Impact have a poor record of 1 win, 3 draws and 2 losses from their 6 games so far. They managed just 6 goals in the process. This is totally opposite to what they did in the successful 2016 campaign, where they finished at fifth in overall MLS away table, combining the 20 teams.
Sporting Kansas City vs Montreal Impact: Head-to-head
The last season’s fixture at Montreal ended in a 2-2 draw. Thereby, SKC stretched their unbeaten run over the Canadian team to five games, having won in all of the previous four MLS fixtures. They also scored a minimum of 2 goals in each of those five outings.
The last time Impact had success over the Wizards was in the 2013 MLS season when they won a home and away game, while losing the first trip to Kansas.
Sporting Kansas City vs Montreal Impact: Prediction
It is a fair assessment that Sporting are a tough team to negotiate for visiting sides. However, Peter Vermes have to deal with the absense of seasoned campaigners Roger Espinoza and Graham Zusi due to national team commitments.
But Montreal have more to worry about their own depleted squad. The Impact have four players in the nursing table, while experienced Belgian defender Laurent Ciman and Canadian midfielder Patrice Bernier are away on international duty.
Therefore, Sporting Kansas City are expected to continue their fine run at home at the expense of Montreal.
