Juventus will have to shake off the bitterness following their Champions League heartbreak as they take on Sampdoria on Sunday.
La Vecchia Signora were by far the better team against Real Madrid and put up a great fight to overhaul a 3-0 deficit suffered in the first leg against the reigning Champions League holders. They were literally just a few minutes from taking the tie to extra-time following a stunning 3-0 win of their own at Los Blancos’ home ground. However, a controversial refereeing decision in the dying moments of the game changed their destiny and denied them the chance to complete what would have been one of the biggest comebacks in the tournament’s history.
Indeed, it’s a bitter blow for Massimiliano Allegri’s side, who were hoping to avenge their 4-1 defeat in last year’s final against the Spanish giants. With the Treble now out of their reach, they can at least console themselves with the possibility of completing yet another domestic double, and key to that will be staying ahead of second-placed Napoli who have not given up hope of trying to knock them off their Scudetto perch.
Gianluigi Buffon, who possibly played his last ever Champions League match, was shockingly sent off after vehemently protesting the questionable spot-kick decision, and could potentially be given a break here. As for Sampdoria, they have won just one of their last five games and have slipped out of a Europa League spot.
The visitors will be desperate to get back on track, but they have built their season largely on their home form. And even that has not always played in their favor, as they were humiliated 5-0 by Inter. Worryingly for Marco Giampaolo’s side, their away form is simply lousy, as they have won just three times on their travels. This includes shocking losses to Crotone (4-1) and Benevento (3-2), whilst the goals have seemingly dried up for veteran striker Fabio Quagliarella, so the odds obviously don’t bode in their favor here.

Juventus vs Sampdoria: Prediction
Sampdoria may have one of the worst away forms in the league, but they’ve managed to score in all but one of their last nine away fixtures. With that in mind, they could manage to nick a goal here, but it shouldn’t be enough to cause the hosts much problems.
Although Juve will still be reeling after their unfortunate result, which saw them actually beat Real Madrid but crash out on aggregate, they should be able to shake it off to pick up all three points as they chase a seventh straight Scudetto crown.
