Juventus vs Roma
Italy – Serie A
Date: Saturday, 1 August 2020
Kick-off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Allianz Stadium.
It’s been not that smooth a sailing for the Old Lady as it used to be in earlier years. They did win the league title, but they have been under-performing a lot lately. And this in turn are encouraging a lot of other teams (even minnows) to go after the nine-time champions.
And to pile on it, Maurizio Sarri will not be able to field his strongest eleven this Sunday either. They have a Champions League fixture coming up, and it would be irresponsible from his side if his key players are not well rested.
By the looks of it, only Cristiano Ronaldo, who’s chasing his elusive fifth Golden Boot, will find some playing minutes this weekend.
As such, this would be the perfect opportunity for La Lupa to record a famous win over the best team in Italy. Considering the current form of both squads, along with these other factors, it seems Roma might be the better team on the pitch this Sunday.
Juventus vs Roma: Head-to-head (h2h)
- The Old Lady had won the latest clash, with a 3-1 scoreline.
- They had also recorded 13 of the preceding 18 wins.
- The last two games had three or more goals.
- At this venue, the hosts are on a ten-game winning run.
- It’s been nine years since the visitors have recorded a win at this stadium.
Juventus vs Roma: Prediction
Sarri’s men lost 2-0 on the road the last match-day, against Cagliari. Meanwhile, Paulo Fonseca’s men registered a 2-3 win on the road the past game week, against Torino.
As things stand, La Lupa seem to be the slight favorites. They are on a three-game winning run, and also are on a seven-match unbeaten run (and of these six were wins as well). Keep note that they had also scored a total of 20 goals in these seven match-ups.
On the road, they are on a three-game winning run, and scored a total of 12 goals in the process. On the other hand, their counterparts were winless in five of their last seven overall fixtures.
Most importantly, the Old Lady will be without the services of most of their key players. And after an exhausting campaign, they will not be willing to commit 100% on the pitch for a meaningless three points, especially with their Champions League game around the corner.
As such, expect Roma to avoid a loss at the very least this weekend.
However, Sarri’s men are still the nine-time running champions, and they have a phenomenal h2h record against this rival. Moreover, they have a terrific record at home this season, despite all their shortcomings. As such, count on them to score at least once.
