Juventus vs Lazio
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Saturday 23 August 2018
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Allianz Stadium (Turin).
Juventus were given quite a fright in their opening game of the 2018/2019 season, as Chievo refused to go away without a fight.
The Bianconeri finally came out on top, but it was a harder battle than Massmiliano Allegri’s men had anticipated and the reigning champions now face their first real test as they prepare to host Lazio on Saturday evening.
Cristiano Ronaldo was unable to mark his debut with a goal as Chievo were desperate to shackle the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, and he’ll be looking to give Juve fans something to really cheer about in his first ever home game.
Meanwhile, Lazio, who narrowly missed out on a Champions League spot, will be one of the teams looking to seriously challenge Juventus for the Scudetto this season.
The Aquile come into this game having lost their opener, however, as they took on Napoli at the Stadio Olimpico. Although Ciro Immobile opened the scoring, Carlo Ancelotti’s side fought back to win that game 2-1.
However, although Lazio are coming into this game off the back of a defeat, they did notably beat Juventus here 2-1 last season, thanks to a brace from Immobile. That ended Juve’s long unbeaten record at home and was a valuable away win for Simone Inzaghi’s side.
Will they be able to repeat that feat in an interesting case of déjà vu as Lazio aim to get back on track? Or will Juventus roar to life on matchday two in front of their home fans?
Juventus vs Lazio: Head-to-head statistics
- Lazio are undefeated in their last 6 away matches
- Juventus are undefeated in 36 of their last 38 home matches
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 22 of Lazio’s last 24 away games
Juventus vs Lazio: Prediction
Scoring on the road was no problem for Lazio last season, as they netted in over 90% of their away fixtures and it’s highly unlikely they’ll have problems doing that on Saturday.
Meanwhile, the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo will make Juventus even more lethal in front of goal, and he’ll be hungry to finally open his account for his new side.
But let’s not forget Paulo Dybala – the young Argentinian attacker does has a knack for scoring against Lazio, with ten goals in his last ten games against the side from Rome – and he will also be hoping to get involved in the action this weekend.
With both sides not having any problems scoring, expect goals on both ends in what should be an entertaining one, but Juventus’s home record shouldn’t be discounted and the hosts just may have enough to edge this one.
