Juventus vs Lazio
Italy – Serie A
Date: Monday, 20 July 2020
Kick-off at 20:45 UK/ 21:45 CET
Venue: Allianz Stadium.
The Old Lady are throwing away all the advantage they have accrued over the season. Their recent loss in form has put their title defense under threat. As of now, they are still at the top of the table, but the likes of in-form Inter, Atalanta etc could topple them in the coming game weeks.
This has also presented another problem. Almost all other major leagues have come to an end, or have their champions for the season; while the Serie A still have five more match-days to go, and the title race is in its height.
Maurizio Sarri will find it hard to rest his key players in such a situation, and this will definitely affect them in three weeks’ time, when the Champions League resumes. They have a 0-1 aggregate scoreline to turn around Lyon, and fans are becoming worried.
Meanwhile, the Eagles have been one of the major obstacles for the Old Lady in their title pursuit. While their form has faded a bit lately, they still have a lot in their arsenal which could hurt the reigning champions.
Considering the overall form of Sarri’s men over the course of the season, and their overall h2h domination, expect them to deliver the better performance this Monday.
However, their defense has been underperforming in the past several game weeks, and Simone Inzaghi’s men have been determined to put an end to the monopoly of the Old Lady in Italy. Likely, a clean sheet looks improbable for the hosts.
Juventus vs Lazio: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Inzaghi’s men are on a two-match winning run against this foe.
- They had scored three or more goals in the last two games.
- The hosts are on a scoring streak of 13 games at this venue.
- The guests had won three of the last four clashes at this stadium.
Juventus vs Lazio: Prediction
The Old Lady were held to a 3-3 draw on the road the last match-day, by Sassuolo. In the meantime, the Eagles were held to a goalless draw on the road by Udinese.
As things stand, Sarri’s men still have the upper hand. They have been the best team in the country for a very long time. In fact, they are the eight-time defending champions of the Seria A.
They had also won 20 of their previous 24 appearances at this venue, and have lost just once here since July of 2019.
On the other hand, their counterparts are winless in their last four fixtures (of which three were losses), and they were winless in five of their past eight road trips as well.
As such, expect a Juventus win this Monday. However, understand that Inzaghi’s men are on a two-match winning run against this rival, and they have scored six goals in the process. They have also won three of their last four visits to this stadium – scoring eight goals.
They have also made sure of a CL berth, and have nothing to lose if they fail here. As such, they will play fearlessly, and will score at least once against the champions’ defense, which has conceded a total of nine goals from the past three games.
