Ipswich Town vs Accrington Stanley: Prediction
Former Blue Lee Martin grabbed a last-minute winner to send Ipswich Town out of the FA Trophy, ending their cup run and deepening the crisis at Portman Road Stadium.
Split spoils with Wycombe Wanderers on New Year ’s Day saw The Tractor Boys fail on the 5th place, continuing their abysmal winless run of eight league games that last since the beginning of November.
The board showed their faith in Paul Lambert, extending his stay on January 1st for five more years and now it’s up to him to gift the home fans with three points and a win they’re waiting on since, believe it or not, September.
In a dramatic Tuesday night at Highbury, Sam Finley scored the winning penalty to take Accrington Stanley through to the last eight of the FA Trophy.
A 7-1 humiliation of weakly Bolton Wanderers made for a start of Stanley’s unbeaten run as John Coleman’s pupils went undefeated for six league games, winning most of them, propelling them to 17th but which ended on a New Year’s Day as Rochdale put them to sword in 1-2 loss.
On the road, Accrington is thoroughly unimpressive. Drawing most of the times, wining only twice in thirteen games, they’re as average one should expect them to be though recently, they’re proving hard to beat, having lost only one in five to one of the best teams in the league.
This one is rather tricky to predict… Though the Tractor Boys are in a world of trouble right now while Accrington is playing their best football in ages, I just can’t see them winning this. Especially following exhausting mid-week battle v Fleetwood.
So I’m boldly backing Paul Lambert and his well-rested side to win, finally give his fans something to be cheerful about and get one over the team that was first to beat them this season and start their calamitous run.
Under 3 goals seems a bit safer, if we look at Ipswich Town’s recent home games and Accrington on the road. Neither will woo you with their attacking quality and spectacular score lines.
