Inter Milan have made a massive step towards their maiden UEFA Champions League semifinal appearance since winning the trophy in 2010.
The Italian outfit downed Benfica 0-2 last Tuesday despite being pretty big underdogs ahead of the tie in Lisbon.
It was a fabulous all-round performance from Simone Inzaghi’s troops who did just enough to keep things quiet at the back and convert their second-half chances at the opposite end.
Nicolo Barella and Romelu Lukaku were the scorers for I Nerazzurri eight days ago. Goalkeeper Andre Onana is also very much worth mentioning for several big saves, including the one to deny Benfica’s skipper Goncalo Ramos in the dying minutes of the first leg.
I Nerazzurri have thus inflicted the second successive loss on Benfica who had earlier complicated things in the Primeira Liga with a 1-2 home loss to bitter domestic rivals Porto.
Inter Milan also terminated their own streak of six subsequent matches without a win in all competitions. It will be very interesting to see how this win will affect the team’s display in the second leg at Stadio Giuseppe Meazza.
