Iceland vs Albania
UEFA Nations League
Date: Monday, 6 June 2022
Kick-off at 19:45 UK / 20:45 CET
Venue: Laugardalsvöllur.

Iceland is set to host Albania in a match of League B in Group 2 at UEFA Nations League. They will be battling it out this Monday at Laugardalsvöllur in Reykjavík.

Iceland have seen drawing their opening game in the Nations League against Israel by 2-2. They have maintained a 2-1 lead till the 84th minute only to see Israel’s Weismann scoring an equalizer in the dying moments. They no longer possess the quality which saw them qualify for major tournaments from 2016 onwards.

The hosts had an abysmal campaign last time out, losing all 6 of their group games, and will hope for better luck this time around. They are now currently on a 7-game winless run across all competitions. Iceland will also not participate in the World Cup this year after winning just 2 of their 10 qualifying games.

On the other side, Albania won for the first time a group by finishing first in group 4 of UEFA Nations League C and has been promoted in UEFA Nations League B in 2020. They however failed to qualify to UEFA Euro 2020, archiving just a disappointing 4th place. The visitors now com here with just one win form the last 5 games across various venues.

Albania settled for a goal-less draw to Georgia in a friendly game two months back. They have had some pretty bad results in the last few months. The heavy loss against England in the late defeat against Spain have put the visitors in a spot of bother with regards to confidence levels.

Iceland vs Albania Head-to-head (h2h)

  • Their last 5 h2h games saw Iceland with 3 wins while Albania won twice.
  • Four out of their last 5 meetings saw scoring from both sides.
  • Last time they met was back in 2019 at the Euro qualifiers where Albania won by 4-2 margin.

Iceland vs Albania Prediction

Iceland are winless in their last 7 games and have won just one of their last 13 games played across different competitions. They had left in 5 or more goals in 2 of their preceding 4 matches and has been on a state of constant struggle.

Meanwhile, Albania lost the last 2 away games in a row conceding 7 in total. But they have seen giving a solid performance against Spain in a friendly fixture 2 months back.

Since both sides are giving mixed results, we feel that an away win or draw seems likely.
