Iceland vs Albania Prediction & Match Preview

Iceland vs Albania
EURO Qualification
Date: Saturday, 8 June 2019
Kick-Off at 14:00 UK / 15:00 CET
Venue: Laugardalsvollur (Reykjavik).

Iceland will be hoping to get their EURO 2020 Qualification campaign up and running on Saturday afternoon when they play host to Albania in the third round of the competition.

The hosts suffered a heavy 4-0 loss at the hands of World champions France back in March, a defeat which followed an easy and expected 0-2 victory at Andorra.

Albania have an identical record after two rounds, but they did drop the ball badly in the opening Matchday falling 0-2 to Turkey. It was a defeat which seriously harmed their ambitions of finishing group as runners-up to untouchable France at the top.

Ervin Bulku’s men now need a breakthrough win to make up for the inaugural loss to Turkey.

Iceland vs Albania: Head-to-head

These two sides featured the same group back in the World Cup 2014 Qualification campaign.

Iceland earned the double via two separate 2-1 wins back then (in 2012 and 2013).

Both teams scored in each of last three head to head affairs.

Iceland vs Albania: Prediction

Iceland made history by featuring last two major competitions (EURO 2016 and World Cup 2018). They need to beat the likes of Turkey and Albania in order to progress from this group and make it three successive major events.

The head coach Erik Hamren has a group of experienced players who have been playing together for quite some time now. Everton’s Gylfi Sigurdsson is the main star, but Iceland do have more Premier League names on disposal (Aron Gunnarsson, Birkir Bjarnason, Johann Berg Gudmundsson).

The hosts will have a great chance to keep things quiet at the back here. Albania have never enjoyed an immense talent in the final third. They do not have a man with more than six goals for the national team (except for Armando Sadiku) in this squad.

Furthermore, they scored only two goals in six matches in all competitions before a 0-3 victory over group underdogs Andorra last time around.

The home win to nil is our main betting suggestion here.
