Hoffenheim vs Schalke
Date: Saturday, 1 December 2018
Kick-Off at 17:30 UK / 18:30 CET
Venue: WIRSOL Rheinm-Neckar-Arena (Sinsheim).
Hoffenheim host Schalke in one of the most interesting ties of the Matchday on Saturday evening at WIRSOL Rhein-Beckar-Arena in Sinsheim. Neither of the two sides will come into the match in the highest of spirits following their respective failures in mid-week’s Champions League fixtures.
Die Kraichgauer lost all hopes of making it to the last 16 round phase by losing 2-3 at home to Shakhtar Donetsk. They are thus still looking for their historic maiden victory in the most elite football competition.
Julian Nagelsmann’s men continued to struggle defensively on the occasion. They quickly got on the wrong foot by allowing two goals within the opening 15 minutes of the affair. Andrej Kramaric and Steven Zuber brought the German outfit back on level terms before the half-time maintaining Hoffenheim’s fine attacking form. Nevertheless, it all fell apart when striker Adam Szalai got booked two times within three minutes to leave his team with ten men in the final half hour of the contest. Ukrainian champions took advantage of it as Taison completed his brace with a 92nd-minute winner for Shakhtar.
Hoffenheim vs Schalke: Head-to-head
Teams have eight wins apiece coming into their 22nd head to head encounter.
Hoffenheim were much more successful in games in Sinsheim where they won five, drew four and lost just one of ten H2H games with Die Konigsblauen.
Both teams scored in four of previous five head to head affairs.
Hoffenheim vs Schalke: Prediction
Schalke climbed up to 15th in the league ladder with a commanding 5-2 victory over recently-promoted Nurnberg last weekend. Reserve striker Steven Skrzybski took advantage of the chance to start the match by bagging a brace on the occasion, while his attacking partner Guido Burgstaller also added his name to the scoresheet.
Nevertheless, Schalke returned to the old habits on Wednesday even they fell 3-1 away at Porto. It was the second consecutive loss on the road for Die Konigsblauen who conceded three goals in each of outings against Eintracht and Porto.
We just have to see a goal fest based on teams’ playing style and recent form.
