2017/18 UEFA Champions League Qualifiers
Date: Tuesday, 27th June 2017
Kick off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Hibernians Stadium.
Hibernians regained the crown in the top flight of Maltese football having claimed their 11th title by finishing seven points clear ahead of Balzan at the top of the standings in the last term.
They thus earned the right to represent their country in the opening round of Champions League qualifications where they are set to meet Estonian champions FCI Tallinn this Tuesday at Hibernians Stadium.
The team is led by the English manager Mark Miller who has two Brazilians in the squad.
Jorge Pereira and Gilmar were the leading figures in Hibernians’ quest for the title together with the local man Julien Degabriele who was the top scorer at the end of the season.
However, the main problem for the hosts lies in the fact they have not played a single competitive game in almost two months.
The visitors rather have other type of problems as they can’t seem to repeat the last year’s success when thy shockingly claimed their first ever champions title in the elite class of the Estonian football.
Aleksandr Pustov’s men trail by nine points to the third-placed Nomme Kalju after 17 rounds of the competition in the new season.
However, they will come into the game in high spirits after clinching a 4-1 victory over fifth-placed Trans last Monday.
