Hamilton Academical vs St. Johnstone: Prediction
Last Saturday was huge for Hamilton’s The Accies, as their eleven-game winless streak has come to and end following 2-1 win over fellow stragglers, Hearts of Midlothian.
That meant passing the torch to troubled Edinburgh side as Brian Rice’s team leapfrogged them and now sit at 11th, just a point away from safety.
Eleven of their fifteen points, Hamilton collected at home. They’re extremely tough to break when playing in front of their own crowd albeit unlucky and more often than not toothless when it comes to final third of the pitch.
The Saints held off St. Mirren in Perth in a drab 0-0 draw, where they’ve spent most of the time in their own half.
But the end justifies the means, as that point was enough to keep their unbeaten streak running and place them at 10th, a point away from their next rivals with two games in hand.
Away from McDiarmid Park, Tommy Wright’s pupils are decent, although they’ve suffered some horrendous defeats. Following 4-nill drubbing at Motherwell, The Saints improved and brought home four points from last two trips.
For The Accies, Blair Alston is close to returning but it might take a while for his fitness levels to increase to acceptable levels. Ryan Fulton and Ciaran Mckenna are still out.
Our guests have no such worries, as their only questionable player is Christopher Kane; his recovery is going well, he’s close but very unlikely to be fit enough for Thursday’s clash.
Despite their breakout win last weekend v Hearts, Rice’s men were very subdued, oftentimes timid as guests played them off the New Douglas Park. St. Johnstone is on the rise. Something happened during mid October, as they’ve started picking up after appalling start to the season. And I believe The Saints will continue their good run. But, you never know with Hamilton, so let’s cast a safety net and cover all bases with Draw No Bet.
I like the odds on second half being more interesting one, the one with most goals scored. Judging by recent results of both teams and some of their previous clashes, as well as taking the importance of the match into account, I’d say this is likely to happen.
