Guadalajara vs Toronto FC: Preview and Predictions

CD Guadalajara vs Toronto FC
CONCACAF Champions League
Date: Thursday, 26th April 2018
Kick-off at 2:30 UK/ 3:30 CET
Venue: Estadio Omnilife (Zapopan).

Club Deportivo Guadalajara sit with a 2-1 lead when they welcome Toronto FC for the second leg of the CONCACAF Champions League final.

The Mexicans took the lead within 2 minutes in the first leg through Rodolfo Pizarro. But the Canadians were quick to react and got on level terms with a well-taken goal from Jonathan Osorio. It was anyone’s game from there, but it was Toronto who created chance after chance.

However, the poor show in front of goal came to haunt them in the closing stages when Alan Pulido’s intended cross from a free kick went straight into the goal. Greg Vanney’s side have now a mountain to climb at a ground where no visiting side had scored a goal in the tournament this season.

The goal conceded in the first leg is Guadalajara’s first in this season’s Champions League. They reached this season’s final by beating MLS sides New York Red Bulls and Seattle Sounders.

Mexican clubs had won the Champions League title in the previous 12 seasons since 2006.

Meantime, Toronto’s road to final saw them knocking out two Mexican sides. But those aggregate wins were constructed on the back of home wins in the first leg. They lost 1 and drew 1 in the away trips, but managed to score 3 goals in the process.

Guadalajara vs Toronto: Head-to-head

The first leg clash is the lone meeting between the two sides.

Guadalajara vs Toronto: Predictions

Guadalajara are a team built on the platform of a strong defense and it will be hard for any visiting side to overturn a first leg defeat. Yet, their fortress could be breached here since Toronto are a side capable of creating many scoring chances. However, I don’t see the Mexicans squandering the lead here.
