Groningen vs FC Emmen: Prediction
It’s been almost two months since Groningen has tasted sweet nectar of victory. Since November 8th, they’ve failed to beat anyone as their bad run went on in KNVB Cup as FC Utrecht knocked them out.
Currently at 10th, Green-White Army found themselves mid way, couple points off European spots and few off relegation dogfight. There’s still no real danger for them but should their (relegation) form continue…
Before Utrecht beat them twice in a row (once in league, once in cup), their home ground was a fortress where they’ve managed four wins and a draw after two opening losses (12:7 GD).
Dick Lukkien’s men had a week to prepare for this clash since their cup adventure ended on first step back in October.
They’re coming into this game on the wings of 2-nill home victory v Sparta, marking the continuation of their unbeaten streak in front of their own fans which now extends to six games, enough to get them to 13th place at Eredivisie ladder.
On the road though… Things aren’t looking good as they’ve matched Fortuna’s inglorious record of one point won in eight excursions, though with somewhat better goal difference (4:22).
Deyovaiso Zeefuik will sit out this game after seeing red last Saturday v ADO but aside from that, Danny Buijs should have all his men available.
Selection issues must give Lukkien a headache, as bunch of his players is MIA for a trip to Groningen. Lorenzo Burnet is serving out a suspension after being sent off v Venlo while Anco Jansen, Desevio Payne, Jan-Niklas Beste, Nick Bakker and Matthias Hamrol are still chilling in the emergency room.
Despite their recent troubles, Groningen plays really well at their ground. Poor realization knocked them out of Cup, since Trots van het Noorden played Utrecht off the park. I’m thinking their bad run is coming to an end as they should be beating injury-ravaged FC Emmen.
Also, Under 3.5 goals should be given. Anyone who ever watched Groningen’s home games will tell you that.
