Graziano Pelle could ease the pain of inevitable exit of Romelu Lukaku

Pelle and Lukaku Everton

Facing the prospect of a loss of talent that Southampton are all too familiar with, it seems as though Belgian star, Romelu Lukaku is on his way out of Merseyside, and with rather a large heap of irony, it could be a Southampton player, that Everton’s ex-Southampton boss could look towards to help fill the void.

Pelle, the late-blooming, explosive and powerful centre –forward has been likened to Lukaku by many. His touch, speed and vision make him a dangerous threat anywhere in the attacking half, often linking up with other midfielders to create the goal scoring opportunities, and not just score them. The 30 year old banged in 23 goals in his two seasons with the Saints among one of the most exciting forward third in the Premiership along with Saido Mane, Shane Long and Jay Rodriguez

A very similar player to Lukaku, Pelle is skilled with the ball at his feet, in front of him, able to shoot from distance and take on defenders, he is a well-rounded and very credible threat to any defence in the league, and in Europe.

Ronald Koeman could do worse than to bring in the man who he has worked with previously at both Feyenoord and Southampton. Reports suggest Southampton, now under the guidance of Frenchman Claude Puel are holding out for $16 million against the supposedly offered $12 million. A fair price to argue given his strong showing at the Euro 2016 tournament.

Should Pelle be the man Koeman turns to in the event of Lukaku leaving, things would not need to change for the Evertonian team – Pelle is very much a like for like replacement. Strong. Fast and creative, and plus under the sustained guidance of Ronald Koeman, there is a lack of worrying for the unknown in this instance. No doubt a difficult lose should it occur as it seems it will, bringing in Pelle for Lukaku would not only be a smart buy, but ultimately, the right buy.
