Mexico vs Jamaica
2017 CONCACAF Gold Cup Semi Final
Date: Monday, 24th July 2017
Kick-off at 2:00 UK/ 3:00 CET
Venue: Rose Bowl (Pasadena).
Jamaica stands in Mexico’s way as the latter look to make consecutive final appearances.
The young Mexican side has been underwhelming through out the tournament, despite having plenty of exciting talents in the squad. They were once again off-color in the semifinals and edge past Honduras by the slimmest of margins. Rodolfo Pizarro scored the lone goal, which came as early as four minutes from kick-off. The El Tri had plenty of possession, but managed just 1 more shot on goal.
Jamaica finally got their tactics right to get past Canada in the semifinal. The Canadians had 66% possession and made 19 attempts on goal. A combination of the safe hands of goal-keeper Andre Blake and some cool finishing was the difference on the day. Romario Williams and Shaun Francis found the back of the net for the Reggae Boyz, but the creator of both chances was the Portland Timber’s forward Darren Mattocks. Canada cut the deficit down to 2-1 through a penalty, however they worn off in the closing stages.

Mexico vs Jamaica: Prediction
Can Jamaica pull out a surprise to upset the tournament favourites ? Well, they could if they can reproduce the fine performance that helped them coast past Canada in the semifinals. The defense look solid and to their strength is the heroics of Philadelphia Union shot stopper Andre Blake.
Mexico problems remains in the scoring department. Not only they fail to take the chances that come their way, but also the midfield lack any quality to tear apart deep lying defenses. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see another 0-0 draw at the end of 90 minutes.
