Girona’s chances for qualifying for Europe came to an end with the heavy 1-4 defeat at home to Eibar last week. After bossing the midtable for the majority of the season, the Catalans can settle for a place outside the top 7 of La Liga table. Girona only managed a humble 5 points from their last 8 games and they are only 6 points behind the 7th placed Sevilla.

It is a good achievement though for a team playing in the LaLiga for the first time in their history. However, their head coach Pablo Machin may have a different opinion. It has been their recent run that prevented the team from achieving something big and get themselves in the history book.

Valencia are on a disappointing run as well and their win-less streak is stretched to five games with a 1-0 defeat to Villarreal last week. Still, they have qualified for the Champions League play-offs, but their season could have turned out better as both Atletico and Real Madrid have dropped points in the last few weeks. So for sure, a fair share of points from those games could have seen them above the two Madrid team, but now this is too late.

Girona vs Valencia: Head-to-head

Valencia defeated Girona 2-1 earlier this season, their first ever meeting in Spanish top flight. The Catalans were the ones who took a surprise lead, but an own goal restored the parity midway through the first half before a second half penalty from Dani Parejo complete the comeback. The match also saw 5 players from each side receiving yellow cards.

Girona vs Valencia: Prediction

The teams are coming with little pressure and they have a chance to play for the fans in the final weeks of the season. While it is true that neither side is doing well at the moment, we must expect an improved showing as they look to register the overdue win.

I consider Valencia as the better side here on the back of their excellent scoring record this season and on the other hand Girona are leaking goals in plenty.
