Girona vs Real Madrid
2018/19 Spanish La Liga
Date: Sunday, 26 August 2018
Kick-off at 21:15 UK/ 22:15 CET
Venue: Estadio Municipal de Montilivi (Girona).
The league has just started and Girona is in a bad state. No one would imagine that they would have been held to a goalless draw at home by the newcomers to the La Liga, Real Valladolid.
This must have been a wrong footing for Abelardo Fernánde’s men and they may find themselves in yet another predicament in this fixture. Girona finished last season by closing the top 10 teams in the league standings.
Unless they start getting focused on this early fixtures, they may be surprised to do worse than they did last season.
Among the starting XI will be Aday Benitez who returns from suspension, David Timor, Garcia and Cristhian Stuani who should start ahead of Lozano up top.
The Vikings will be coming into this away fixture ignited after thrashing Getafe in a match that ended 2-0 last Sunday. Most definitely, they kick off their league campaign with positivity amidst the transfer of their main forward player, CR7, to the Italy side, Juventus.
Apparently, this will not be a hard match for Real Madrid. Alvaro Odriozola is back fit after injury but is unlikely to be immediately involved in Lopetegui’s matchday squad for the weekend.
However, Casemiro is expected to come into midfield, with Real Madrid perhaps not having quite as open of a midfield as they risked against Getafe, but Lopetegui could deploy Isco centrally instead.
Marco Asensio and Isco could be left to battle it out to start on the left, with Luka Modric likely to replace Dani Ceballos in central midfield. Benzema and Bale will definitely start in the forward positions of the starting XI.
This is clear evidence that Lopetegui’s starting XI will have done the damage to the home side in this match before the end of first half.
