Germany vs Chile
Confederations Cup – Group B
Date: Thursday, 22nd June 2017
Kick-off at 19:00 UK/ 20:00 CET
Venue: Kazan Arena (Kazan).
Germany and Chile will be keen to assert their dominance in Group B when they lock horns at the Kazan Arena on Thursday evening.
The Mannschaft kicked off their campaign in style by beating Australia 3-2 in a thrilling encounter, while Chile got the better of Cameroon by a 2-0 margin in a match they squandered a handful of scoring chances.
The winner of this match will qualify for the semifinals, while the loser will be handed a must-win scenario in the final group game.
In the first group game, Germany were in a spot of bother due to two goal-keeping howlers of Bernd Leno. This let the Australians come back into the game, despite dominating the attacking third. Also, the defense didn’t look as solid as it used to be. However, this was expected, having Low decided to rest a number of senior players. In a nutshell, the midfield and attack look solid and Low will be encouraged to play an attacking oriented football throughout the tournament.
Chile do have similar problems with plenty of creativity in midfield and a porous and vulnerable defense. Their main area of concern is finishing and 2-0 score-line against Cameroon do not say the whole story. The South American champions could have took an insatiable lead in the first half itself, if not for Vargas and co to squander a number of easy scoring chances. A similar performance could put them into a lot of pressure when coming against a team like Germany.
Germany vs Chile: Head-to-head
Germany have a 100% win record against Chile in the 4 h2h matches so far. Three of those come in World Cup dated 1962, 74 and 82. The fourth game is a friendly on 2014, a first half strike from Mario Gotze giving the Mannschaft a 1-0 win.
Germany vs Chile: Prediction
We are expected another entertaining affair on Thursday night. From the first round of fixtures, it is evident that all teams are not here to hold back, but to play some beautiful attacking football. So, expect another goal fest with both teams look solid in attack and plenty of problems in defense.
The final result could tip in favour of the Germans by a narrow margin, but not before we see a minimum of 3 goals.
