Germany vs Cameroon
Confederations Cup – Group B
Date: Sunday, 25th June 2017
Kick-off at 16:00 UK/ 17:00 CET
Venue: Fisht Olympic Stadium (Sochi).
The qualification places are up for grabs when Germany take on Cameroon in the final Group B game of the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup.
Germany fought back from a goal down to earn a 1-1 draw against Chile to once again prove their bench strength. Joachim Low’s side were tipped as slight underdogs by many bookies, but this young side returned the coach’s faith with a solid display.
The real find for the German side is Lars Stindl, who has now netted in two consecutive intentional games. It is more reassuring that the out and out striker is getting into promising positions which gives the team a different dimension than when they used to play with a false nine.
The Mannschaft could rally into the semifinals with a draw against Cameroon, while the African Champions must win on a high margin.
Cameroon were the better side in the 1-1 draw against Australia. Whatever reasons one might put on the table, it is 3 points dropped for the African champions as they had the better of the chances on Thursday. Vincent Aboubakar is the prime guilty party, who squandered a large portion of easy scoring chances.
It is now or never for Cameroon, anything other than a win against Germany will sent them out of the competition. On paper, this is certainly a herculean task. We have seen that Germany likes to be on the offense and defending is Cameroon’s weakest area.
Germany vs Cameroon: Head-to-head
Overall, there have been three previous duels between the sides. And Germany are unbeaten with 2 wins and a draw.
The draw happened in their most recent meeting in 2014 which finished in a 2-2 draw. While, Germany won the two previous games, 3-0 and 2-0.
Germany vs Cameroon: Prediction
No surprises are expected when the teams take the field in Sochi on Sunday evening. Germany are a far better side in all aspects of play and this will end in nothing less than a comprehensive win. Cameroon’s panic defending will add to the cause, expecting they are also bound to lose majority of battles in the midfield.
