Georgia vs Lithuania: Preview and Predictions

Georgia vs Lithuania
International Friendlies
Date: Saturday, 24 March 2018
Kick-Off at 15:00 UK
Venue: Mikheil Meskhis sakhelobis Stadioni (Tbilisi).

Neither Georgia nor Lithuania were anywhere near challenging one of top two spots in their respective groups during the WC Qualification campaign. Lithuanians have actually made a shockingly strong start claiming five points from three opening ties against Slovenia, Scotland and Malta, but Edgaras Jankauskas’ men have failed to capitalize on it later on claiming juts a single point in the remaining seven outings in the group.

Lithuania’s main problems are connected with the lack of the efficiency in the final third. The team has scored just once in last four qualifiers on the road, and that lone goal came against the likes of Malta. As the matter of fact, only three players have managed to get their names on the scoresheet during the entire campaign. Fedor Cernych has been the best performer netting three goals in the process. His current spell of form is, however, under the big question mark since he has only featured two matches in the year for Dynamo Moscow.

Georgia have only claimed five points in ten qualifying games, but their form has seen a massive rise in late 2017. The hosts have been very tough to break down lately losing only narrowly October’s qualifiers against Serbia and Wales. Vladimir Weiss’ men have been successful in November’s set of friendlies beating Cyprus 1-0 before drawing 2-2 against Belarus.

Georgia vs Lithuania: Head-to-head

Teams have three wins apiece ahead of their seventh head to head encounter.

Lithuania have been more successful in the EC Qualification campaign back in 2007 when they’ve won both ties against Georgia without conceding a single goal in the process.

Georgia vs Lithuania: Prediction

Weiss will be without his star man and top scorer Valeri Kazaishvili whose season has just started (he plays for Sporting KC in the MLS – two goals in two games so far).

Since both managers will want to get a positives result here, we can expect a competitive affair with very few goal-scoring chances at both ends.

Under 2.5 goals FT would thus be the safest of the betting options, while braver punters can try with the draw at 3.40.
