Gent vs Genk
Belgium – First Division A
Date: Saturday, 27 April 2019
Kick-Off at 19:30 UK
Venue: GHELAMCO-arena, Gent
Gent have made the top 6 cut in First Division A only just and thanks to a 0-2 win at Sint-Truiden on the final day of the first phase, but we’ve seen them struggling to build on such performances in the Championship round – hosting table-toppers Genk with a five-game winless streak behind them.
De Buffalo’s thus sit 6th and a point behind Anderlecht, who have a game in hand, only ending a streak of four losses in a row with a goalless draw at Stade Constant Vanden Stock. They’ve seen losses to Club Brugge, Standard Liege, Genk, and Antwerp beforehand and Jess Thorup’s men will be desperate to finally put an end to the unwanted streak.
Genk have been in a much better shape, though, and will be no easy task for them. They’ve beaten Club Brugge and Standard Liege quite comfortably since their home win over Gent in early April, which should have them in a great mood as they travel to GHELAMCO-arena. They’ve been conceding goals on the regular but impressed in the final third, primarily led by Mbwana Samatta up front.
Gent vs Genk: Head-to-head
Genk have beaten the rivals in all of the last three head-to-head clashes.
Blauw-Wit snatched a thrashing 1-5 win on their last trip to this ground in October.
Gent haven’t beaten the rivals since March 2018, when they snatched a 1-2 win at Luminus Arena.
Gent vs Genk: Prediction
We will now back Genk to extend the convincing streak in head-to-head clashes with all three points at GHELAMCO-arena, where an Away win comes at 1.80 and looks the best way to go about the market at this point.
However, we feel Gent will do their bit in making this an exciting challenge in front of the home crowd, desperate for points to challenge a spot in the top 5. With that in mind, we hope to see goals on Saturday and we’re also going for Over 2.5 goals FT at 1.50 – which comes off as more of a banker bet.
