Genoa vs Torino
2017/18 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 20 May 2018
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Communale Luigi Ferraris (Genoa).
Having already secured safety for the next campaign, Genoa and Torino will hope to conclude the season on a decent note as they lock horns on Sunday.
Torino can’t move any higher from 10th spot. Genoa, meanwhile, sit in 12th spot, and the highest they can move is 11th, so pretty much unless if a player is featuring at the World Cup, he’s already looking forward to his holiday. Walter Mazzarri will be making plans for the upcoming season having done well since taking over mid-season and their last away trip saw them draw Napoli 2-2. It was an impressive result that ruined the Partenopei’s chances at clinching the Scudetto, and even more impressive considering that Torino had nothing really to play for in that game.
Genoa have lost four of their last five games and have been just meandering along since figuring out they’re safe for the upcoming season. They shockingly lost 1-0 to Benevento last round and it seems like the holidays came pretty early for the Grifone. Torino will be looking to exploit that, especially as they came from behind twice against a desperate Napoli side to snatch a point. Genoa have lost seven of their last nine meetings against top flight sides and given that they failed to beat Benevento it’s hard to see them mustering up enough effort to successfully see off Torino, who despite their large number of draws have done quite well against teams in the bottom half of the table.
The Granata, in fact, have lost just one of their last 19 against teams who rank 11 through 20 and should be able to edge out this game and could potentially close the gap on Sampdoria should the Genoa-based side – who are known for their bad away showings – slip-up this Sunday as well.
Genoa vs Torino: Head-to-head (h2h)
- Genoa have lost seven of their last nine games against teams in the top half of the table this season
- The Grifone have lost four of their last five, including three in a row
- However, Genoa are undefeated in their last 10 home matches against Torino in all competitions
- There have been over 2.5 goals scored in 5 of Torino’s last 6 away games
Genoa vs Torino: Prediction
Genoa have won just twice against teams in the top half of the table this campaign. Although they have a strong unbeaten record against Torino, expect that to fall this weekend as they haven’t been at their very best as of late. Torino may have little to play for at this point, but they’re not acting like it as evidenced in their strong showing against a Napoli side who were desperate to keep their foot in the door in the Scudetto race – and the Granata threw a monkey wrench in those plans. Expect the visitors to finish this game out on a strong footing to wrap up this campaign.
