Genoa vs Pescara
2016/17 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 25 September 2016
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris (Genoa).
Having managed to shut out Napoli, Genoa will hope to pick up all three points when they take on Pescara at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris this Sunday.
Given that the Partenopei boast one of the strongest attacks in Serie A, the Grifone truly pulled off an impressive feat. No team so far has been able to keep Maurizio Sarri’s men from finding the back of the net, and new coach Ivan Juric will believe that will definitely help his team’s confidence ahead of the match.
The hosts will not have Leonardo Pavoletti for this game, but a certain young starlet will be handed his Serie A debut. Giovanni Simeone, none other than the son of Atletico Madrid icon Diego Simeone, will be tasked with leading the line, and this could present a golden opportunity for him to shine. Meanwhile, Pescara have five points from their first five games, but have yet to actually win a game this season. Still, Massimo Oddo will be satisfied with the point they picked up against Torino – albeit with the Granata finishing with nine men, the Delfini surely will feel they could have pressed a bit more.
The road to survival is a long one, fraught with many challenges, and Pescara surely will be taking every single point they can get between now and May. However, with 40 usually being the magical number, and this being matchday six, Oddo will want to see his team earn an “official” win sooner rather than later.
Genoa vs Pescara: Head-to-head statistics
- Genoa have won 13, drawn four, and lost three of their last 20 home games against teams ranked lower than them in the table.
- Pescara have won two, drawn two and lost 14 of their last 18 away matches against teams ranked higher than them in the table.
- The Grifone have won their last three home ties against Pescara, whilst scoring at least two goals in all of those.
Genoa vs Pescara: Prediction
Genoa will be hampered without key striker Leonardo Pavoletti, who went off during the tie with Napoli. However, as noted before, holding the Partenopei to a scoreless draw is an impressive feat in itself, and the Grifone will be playing yet again on home turf. Pescara really could have pushed more in their match with Torino after the Granata saw two people sent off, but were quite cautious, which nonetheless is understandable given their objective is simply to avoid the drop.
The hosts will be fancying their chances in this one, thanks to their superior head-to-head record and overall talent within their ranks. The absence of Pavoletti, however, will make things a bit tougher as Pescara are going to play with everyone behind the ball. Nonetheless, Genoa should be able to grind out a win, although it certainly may not be the prettiest of results. A 1-0 outcome would not be entirely shocking.
