Genoa vs Crotone
Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday, 22 January 2017
Kick-Off: 14:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Luigi Ferraris (Genoa).
Genoa will be desperate to arrest a disturbing downward spiral as they take on debutants Crotone on Sunday.
The Grifone were once doing pretty well as they defeated Juventus 3-1 at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. They were in fact, the first team to put three past the Bianconeri since Fiorentina defeated them 4-2 in October 2013 but something has gone seriously awry for Ivan Juric’s side. In fact, shortly before the Christmas break, Genoa suffered one of the most shocking defeats fans have seen all season. In a seven goal thriller, they ended up on the wrong end of a 4-3 score-line.
That in itself is not surprising, but the fact that it was against Palermo was that much more shocking indeed. For starters, the Rosanero had never scored four against anyone all term. In fact, they haven’t won a home game all season. Both of their two victories have been on the road. And 2017 has not brought Genoa any respite, as they come into this match now on a four match losing streak. That extends to five if one includes their midweek 4-2 defeat to Lazio in the Coppa Italia.
Meanwhile, Crotone’s debut Serie A season has been predictably difficult. Still, there’s hope for them. After all, Sassuolo managed to escape the drop in their debut campaign back during the 2013/2014 term. The Squali currently sit in 19th, albeit ahead of Pescara only on goal difference. They have quite a lot of work to do if they want to stay afloat, and they have a whopping nine points to close down between themselves and Empoli at this point in time.

Genoa vs Crotone: Prediction
Genoa need to get back on track. They have not lost five in a row in two years and they surely will be loath to see this happen against Crotone. Meanwhile, the only thing preventing the visitors from being bottom of the table is their slightly better goal difference over Pescara.
Crotone have a game in hand, but it’s against Juventus, so that’s not going to help them much when it comes down to it. This will be a golden chance for the Grifone to get the wheels back up and running after some shockingly bad performances and whilst Crotone will play everyone behind the ball, they should be able to grind out a positive result here.
