Eintracht Frankfurt are hoping to put an end to their bad run of form when they welcome Champions League hopefuls Borussia Monchengladbach to Commerzbank-Arena in Sunday’s Bundesliga clash.
Eintracht Frankfurt vs Monchengladbach: Match Preview
Eintracht were punished for not making their dominance count and ended up being undone by a clinical performance from Basel as the Eagles were beaten 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie.
Things aren’t going any better for Adi Hutter’s men back on domestic front since they’re caught in a downward spiral, losing their last three Bundesliga games whilst slipping down the table to 12th place, without almost any hope of getting back into cherished Europa League places.
After opening six-game unbeaten streak at Commerzbank-Arena, unexpected loss against (back then) indisposed Wolfsburg kinda broke the Eagles as their home form plummeted and they ended up picking just seven points since the beginning of November, all of them during their short lived outburst during January before Union extinguished their flame by winning 1-2 not long ago.
Borussia Monchengladbach edged out Köln 2-1 in postponed Rheinland derby in a match that was one for the history books since the game took place behind closed doors for the first time in Bundesliga 57-year history.
The Foals seemingly dropped out of the race for Meisterschale after Dortmund got the better of them one week ago but Champions League football is still in the cards for Marco Rose’s men; they currently occupy 4th place on Bundesliga table with Leverkusen breathing down their neck as just two points separate heated rivals.
Monchengladbach are somewhat curious case, after being nearly invincible in their home ground for first part of the season and consistently inconsistent away, someone suddenly flipped the switch and judging by their recent games, the Foals has now become unpredictable at Borussia-Park while amassing points on their travels.
Usual suspects in Eintracht’s injury report as Bas Dost, Gelson Fernandes, Nils Stendera, Lucas Torró and Marco Russ are set out to miss yet another match for the Eagles.
Denis Zakaria and Florian Mayer won’t travel to Frankfurt this weekend with Lászlo Bénes remaining the one unknown after picking up some mysterious illness.

Eintracht Frankfurt vs Monchengladbach: Prediction
Everything points out toward another fruitful excursion for the Foals. They’re in great form at the moment, have excellent recent record against Eintracht (who’re spiraling out of control right now) and have had a bit more time to rest so I believe they’ll continue their chase for Champions League with another decent performance and will come back home undefeated.
In the least, I expect to see open game, with abundance of chances on both side and scoreline to rival their most recent meetup. Eintracht have many faults but they usually chuck at least one goal in front of their own fans so BTTS in here seems like inevitability.
