Fleetwood vs Walsall
English League One
Date: Saturday, 17 November 2018
Kick-Off at 12:00 UK / 13:00 CET
Venue: Highbury Stadium (Fleetwood).
Both Fleetwood Town and Walsall bounced back from recent league failures with respective FA Cup wins last weekend. The Fishermen took advantage of the much easier first round draw to storm past the National league outfit Alfreton Town 1-4 on the road. The head coach Joey Barton sent out a very strong squad featuring team’s top scorer Paddy madden who notched a brace at The Impact Arena.
Can Fleetwood Town back up such victory with a League One success on Saturday when they host mid-table neighbours Walsall in the first game of the Matchday. The clash is scheduled exactly at noon at Highbury Stadium.
The visitors had a much tougher job in the opening round of the FA Cup on Saturday, but they managed to secure a 3-2 victory over divisional rivals Coventry City. It was the right-back Nicky Devlin who scored the match-winner 13 minutes from time.
Fleetwood vs Walsall: Head-to-head
- Walsall were the more successful outfit in the history of head to head affairs between the two sides.
- The Saddlers won seven, drew one and lost only three of eleven meetings with Fleetwood Town.
- The Fishermen, however, did win three of last four outings against Walsall netting two or more goals in three of these four affairs.
Fleetwood vs Walsall: Prediction
Dean Keates’ men have, however, been struggling to perform in League One recently. They lost four of last five matches there, including the 0-2 home defeat to Charlton Athletic in the previous round. Such a negative run seriously halted their promotional push as the Saddlers fell down to 11th place as a result.
Walsall were generally very easy to break down of late. They allowed two or more goals in all of last five matches across competitions. It will surely be the music to the ears of Paddy Madden who scored two goals in the FA Cup win last weekend.
Furthermore, the Fishermen bagged five goals in last two home wins over Shrewsbury Town and Blackpool in League One and we see them favourites to keep such fine form going here.
