Fiorentina vs Udinese
2018/19 Italian Serie A.
Date: Sunday 2 September 2018
Kick-Off: 17:00 UK,
Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi (Florence).
After cruising to a resounding 6-1 win over a hapless Chievo side, Fiorentina will hope to make it a second straight victory as they welcome Udinese on Sunday afternoon.
The Viola actually have a game in hand as their first match was cancelled due to the Genoa bridge collapse, but they had no problems getting up and running and will look to keep up their good progress as they look forward to their own matchday two.
After missing out on the Europa League, the Tuscan outfit are hoping to make another go for a European football berth this season. They were given a faint glimmer of hope after AC Milan were temporarily kicked out of Europe’s second tier competition due to the Rossoneri’s financial issues, but that was soon dashed when Milan were able to get themselves reinstated.
The club have made some interesting signings this summer, including securing the on-loan services of Marko Pjaca, Kevin Mirallas, and Gerson from Juventus, Everton, and Roma respectively, and Pjaca and Gerson were both involved during the recent victory over Chievo.
Udinese, meanwhile, have had a mixed start to the season under new manager Julio Velázquez. They had to fight from 2-0 down to secure a draw against a newly promoted Parma side, then earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over Sampdoria thanks to a goal from Rodrigo de Paul, who so far, has scored two of the team’s three goals this season.
Unfortunately, the Zebrette will be missing Rolando Mandragora after he was found guilty of apparently uttering “blasphemous” phrases following Udinese’s narrow victory over Sampdoria. Curiously enough, in Italy, that’s worse than cursing, and so he will have to miss this game due to a ban.
Udinese survived a roller coaster to avoid the drop and they will be hoping not to have such a tumultuous ride this time around. Having earned a win over Sampdoria, they will be very wary of this trip to Florence, as it has not brought them great fortunes in the past decade or so. Fiorentina, meanwhile, will be still on cloud nine after thrashing Chievo and will hope to pick up another win in order to start accumulating points in order to keep themselves in contention for a Europa League spot.

Fiorentina vs Udinese: Prediction
Fiorentina are on a 11 game winning streak at home against Udinese, who have not won here since November 2007. In fact, the Zebrette have only won five times at the Stadio Artemio Franchi, so with that in mind, backing the hosts to win is a safe bet.
In addition, given how they were in free form in their last match, they should have no problems scoring here, especially as Udinese have not fully sorted themselves out defensively just yet.
That being said, Udinese appear to be a stronger side than last term. They are unbeaten in their last four and could certainly nick a goal, albeit they are the clear underdogs here.
