Fiorentina vs Crotone
Italian Serie A.
Date: Wednesday, 26th October 2016
Kick-Off: 19:45 UK,
Venue: Stadio Artemio Franchi (Florence).
After surviving a turbulent 90 minutes to defeat Cagliari, Fiorentina will hope to steady some nerves by making it two wins on the trot against bottom-ranked Crotone.
In what can be best described as one of the most entertaining games of round nine, the Viola came out on top in an eight-goal thriller. Five were netted by Paulo Sousa’s men, but they were given a fright as the Rossoblu refused to give in and tried to claw their way back with two late efforts despite being 5-1 down. Before that game, the Gigliati had netted a dismal six in eight games, so their glut of goals has seriously padded their not-so-impressive strike record.
Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic grabbed himself a hat-trick as his Italian colleague Federico Bernadeschi netted a brace. The former in particular has been heavily criticized for his profligacy in front of goal and clearly wanted to make a point in an inspired showing for the struggling Viola. Fiorentina’s win marked the first in five games for the Tuscans, but they are still not out of the woods just yet. They still sit in the bottom half of the table, albeit with a game in hand, and will have an excellent opportunity to continue onwards and upwards against a hapless debutant side who have already turned out to be the league’s whipping boys this season.
One cannot help but feel sorry for Crotone. The Serie A new-boys have had an awful start to their first-ever appearance in Italian football’s top flight and despite a brave fight, were unable to pick up a point against a 10-man Napoli. With just one point, they are firmly rooted to the bottom of the table, five points behind 19th-placed Palermo, and are unfortunately set for a return to Serie B – unless if something changes quickly.

Fiorentina vs Crotone: Prediction
After hanging on to beat Cagliari 5-3 and end their four match winless run, Fiorentina will be full of verve and purpose here. Paulo Sousa’s men will want to close down this game quickly, so expect them to try to seal an early lead to avoid being bogged down by a Crotone side expected to park the bus. The visitors, naturally will try to keep this at 0-0 for as long as possible as they are fighting a losing battle to avoid returning to Serie B next season – and every point will make the difference ultimately between staying afloat and going under.
Fiorentina’s misfiring attack will also want to finally get up and running – especially considering that the team have been less than impressive in front of their home fans.
