Faroe Islands vs Sweden
Euro 2020 Qualification
Date: Thursday, 05 September 2019
Kick off at 19:45 UK/ 20:45 CET
Venue: Torsvollur (Torshavn).
Faroe Islands are at the very bottom of the UEFA 2020 Qualifying Group F. So far, they’ve been beaten by Malta (1-2), Romania (1-4), Spain (1-4) and Norway (0-2), and are about to play third straight home game this Thursday when they take on Sweden.
The hosts had a decent win-draw-lose record of 2-3-5 in 2018 WC Qualifiers and they will look to bag at least one victory here, but that’s unlikely to happen in September. Perhaps when an inferior, in terms of FIFA rankings, Maltese side visits Torshavn next month.
With two wins, a draw and a loss with goal difference od 8:7, Sweden are five points off top spot, levelled with Romania and two points above the fourth-placed Norway.
Since Romania are about to face Spain for the first time, the Swedes have fantastic opportunity to grab that second spot this week when they face Faroe Islands and Norway ahead of potentially crucial Novembar fixture in Bucharest.
Faroe Islands vs Sweden: Head to Head
These two shared group in 2014 World Cup Qualifiers. Sweden won both games, 2-1 on the road and 2-0 at home.
We haven’t seen a goal in their first-ever meeting in a friendly match in 2001.
Faroe Islands vs Sweden: Prediction
The Swedes are scoring two goals per game in this Group and I fully expect them to, at least, keep that ratio. They’re considerably stronger that Faroe Islands in every department, and with Marcus Berg, Alexander Isak and John Guidetti as options up front, I reckon they get an early goal and finish the hosts off in the second part of the game.
As an alternative bet, I’ll go with over 2.5 since Faroese managed to get on the scoresheet in defeats against two strong sides, Romania and Spain, and we’ve seen them scoring versus Sweden in the past.
Faroe Islands vs Sweden: Bet Tips
