Faroe Islands vs Hungary: Match Preview and Prediction

Faroe Islands vs Hungary
European Qualifiers – 2018 World Cup
Date: Tuesday; 6-September-2016
Kick-off: 19:45 UK
Venue: Torsvollur Stadium (Torshavn).

Hungary are expected to have an easy ride when they open their World Cup qualification campaign with an away game at the tiny nation of Faroe Islands.

Hungary were surprise package at the European Championships in France and they squeezed past to the knockout rounds of the tournament winning a group that includes Portugal and Austria. They registered only one win in the tournament which came against Austria. Subsequent draws against Iceland and Portugal was enough for them to enter the round of 16, where they were undone by a brilliant Belgium.

The success of Hungary in recent times owes much to their unorthodox head-coach Bernd Storck. He lifted the steam from a difficult position during the qualification phase for Euro 2016 and guided them to the final tournament in a dramatic fashion. The summer tournament in France was Hungary’s first major tournament since the 1986 World Cup.

While Faroe Islands are the smallest UEFA member and they are currently ranked 135th in the FIFA rankings. They are yet to qualify for a major international tournament. They managed 5 wins from 60 World Cup qualifying matches since their first entry in 1994.

Faroe Islands vs Hungary: Head-to-Head

These two sides were grouped together for the Euro 2016 qualification campaign. Hungary won both legs by narrow margins, 1-0 at Faroe Islands, before winning the home leg by 2-1.

Faroe Islands vs Hungary: Prediction

Hungary have improved a lot since the two sides met on October 2015. They are a direct attacking side who are capable of scoring goals in plenty. There is no doubt that this is an easy fixture for the Magyars and backing them to win with a handicap +1 goals is my recommended bet for this European World Cup Qualifier.

Faroe Islands vs Hungary: Betting Tips

Hungary to win at 2/5 (1.40)
Over 2.5 goals at 3/4 (1.75)
Handicap Hungary -1 at 6/5 (2.20).

  1. one of their players is contracted to SK Brann in Norway, I heard he makes something of 1 million euro every year 23 year old, real wonderkid they say. Gilli Rólantsson. Another one Brandur Olsen, scored the winning goal in Danish cup final last year, 19 year old, these two werent even in the last hungary game. Another one plays for Dinamo Bucarest

  2. Faroe Islands have 12 proffesional players in Denmark and Norway, when these two team last met, they only had 5 proffesionals, I’d bet on the Faroese, very good odds, and their players are young and talented as hell

  3. what kind of handicap Hungary +1 is exactly? Hungary to score one or more ,meaning if they score 1 bet is void,or is it Hungary to score over 1,5 ?

    • Hi Jonny,

That is supposed to be a (-1) Handicap and yes Hungary must win by a margin of 2 or more goals if the bet has to be won. Also the odds are raising.
