Everton vs Southampton
English Premier League
Date: Saturday, 18 August 2018
Kick-off at 15:00 UK/ 16:00 CET
Venue: Goodison Park (Liverpool).
Everton eye first win of the season when they welcome Southampton to the Goodison Park this Saturday.
The Toffees were held to a 2-2 draw by Wolves on the opening day, the new signing Richarlison scoring both goals for Marco Silva’s men.
Everton can consider this as a good result since it came away from home and they were reduced to 10-men at the end of first half when leading 1-0.
On the other hand, Southampton shared the spoils with Burnley with a goal-less draw in a match which both teams had clear-cut chances to break the deadlock.
Mark Hughes will be more concerned about his team’s defensive display that let the Clarets to have 6 clear shots on goal, Alex McCarthy to the rescue on each occasion.
Meantime, the new signings Danny Ings and Mohamed Elyounoussi impressed from the bench and will be in line for full debut this weekend.
Everton vs Southampton Head-to-head
- The teams are locked at 4 wins and 2 draws from their last 10 Premier League meetings.
- Everton are unbeaten at home in h2h matches against Saints since 1998, 9 wins and 4 draws in 13.
- Last season’s corresponding fixture at Goodison was a 1-1 stalemate.
Everton vs Southampton Prediction
Everton looked bright and lively in their opening day fixture and they will be high on confidence for their first home match of the season.
On the other hand, as I suspected before matchday 1, Mark Hughes lived up to my prediction of being a slow starter. There is plenty of work to be done in all departments of the team unless he could land the team where Stoke City ended up last season.
To sum it all up, I could see the Toffees raring to go and put a fine performance in front of their fans this weekend. The Saints haven’t won here in 20 years and punters must not hesitate to back a home win here.
