Everton vs Liverpool
England – Premier League
Date: Saturday, 7 April 2018
Kick-Off at 12:30 UK
Venue: Goodison Park (Liverpool).
The schedule is not quite friendly for Liverpool these days. In the midst of super tough Champions League quarterfinal legs with Manchester City, the Reds have to take on their bitter rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby on Saturday afternoon. Jurgen Klopp won’t thus have the luxury of resting his main stars for the rematch at Etihad Stadium. Could the Toffees take advantage of the situation and snatch a victory which would kind of save the season for them?
It has indeed been a roller-coaster campaign for Everton so far in the season. They’ve not had a pleasant Europa League adventure with ended with the group stage exit, while things haven’t quite gone very well in the domestic affairs either. They hired Sam Allardyce midway through the season, but the team still obviously lacks consistency.
The Toffees have been playing much better in front of the home crowd at Goodison, though. They’ve won three on the bounce there in the Premier League before falling 1-3 to runaway leaders Manchester City last weekend. They will hardly see European football next year as the sixth-placed Arsenal are as many as 11 points away at the moment.
Liverpool have managed to recover from a 2-1 loss at Old Trafford by beating Watford and Crystal Palace in the last two rounds. Klopp’s side has the pole position in the battle for the Champions League spots being eight above the fifth-placed Chelsea. Mohamed Salah has continued his amazing spell of form seven days ago when he bagged his 29th Premier League goal in a 1-2 win away at Selhurst Park.
Everton vs Liverpool: Head-to-head
Overall, Liverpool have been more successful over the history, but Everton will have the chance to make it all square in the H2H stats in matches at Goodison with a win here.
This will be the third Merseyside derby of the season.
The one played in the league competition saw a 1-1 draw at Anfield, while the Reds came on tip when the two teams took on each other in the FA Cup in early-January this year (2-1).
Everton vs Liverpool: Prediction
Each of last three head to head encounters have seen both teams on target. We do expect this scenario to happen once again here given that both teams have been pretty impressive in the final third lately.
Cenk Tosun looks to have found the right shape for Everton and he will be the man to watch out. The Turkish striker is well worth backing as the anytime goalscorer at the sky-high 3.50 odds.
