Euro 2016 Matchday Predictions and Accumulator Tips - Series 1

This is our new series for Euro 2016, which derive predictions and tips each group for the match day 1.

For each match, the best tips with the focus on the odds are made available. Also two separate accumulator slips are derived based on the degree of risk. Lets take a look at the 12 matches for matchday 1 of the Euro 2016 group stage.

1) France vs Romania

Romania’s form has been far from convincing, but they have a knack of holding strong team to a draw. But the hosts are heavy favourites to win the tournament opener and this fact could be backed by their strong form in recent outings. And in front of their home crowd, they will not disappoint.

  • France to win (1.35)
  • Half Time/Full Time: France/France (1.73)
  • Under 2.5 goals (1.75)

2) Albania vs Switzerland

Switzerland are on a poor run of form and were on a 3 match losing streak prior to the 2-1 win against minnows Moldova in the last friendly. The debutant Albania are one of the weakest team in the tournament, but if team work can do magic, they will mount a huge upset on Saturday.

  • Switzerland to win (1.79)
  • HT Draw (1.89)
  • Handicap Albania +2 (1.26)

3) Wales vs Slovakia

Slovakia are undefeated in their last 8 matches, while Wales haven’t won in their last four and lost 3 of them. Wales are heavily dependent on Gareth Bale, but the same can be said about Slovakia whose success mainly attributes to the contributions of Marek Hamsik. This could be anyone’s game for the taking so backing both teams to score is a better bet.

  • Both Teams to Score (2.16)
  • Double Chance Wales/Slovakia to win (1.32)
  • Bale to Score any time (2.70)

4) England vs Russia

This is the best England football team in years, in terms of getting wins and Russia are coming with a low confidence. But their attack is still a threat but their ageing defence could be easily breached. If Rooney and co don’t have an off-day, this will be a huge England win. Also back Harry Kane to score first goal for the Three Lion in the Euro 2016 campaign.

  • England to win (1.87)
  • Both Teams to Score (1.99)
  • Half Time/Full Time – England/England (2.99)

5) Poland vs Northern Ireland

Northern Ireland are on form of their life with their 12 match unbeaten run, which includes 6 wins and 6 draws. They do not have any super stars in the squad and they are side that could be considered as a mid-table Premier League team. Poland must be under radar after their performances in the last two Euro Cups, getting knocked out after failing to win a single match. A draw is the likely outcome, but this is unarguably the riskiest match to bet on in the first round one of fixtures.

  • Double Chance N.Ireland/Draw (2.01)
  • Lewandowski to score any time (2.79)

6) Germany vs Ukraine

Germany are on a turbulent form and they are some players missing with injuries and fitness issues. Ukraine are a quick counter attacking side and they are very capable of upsetting the World champions if their game plan works. But the Mannschaft don’t disappoint in major tournaments these days and can be backed confidently for an outright win.

  • Germany to win (1.59)
  • Over 2.5 goals (1.89)
  • Thomas Muller to score (2.01)
  • Both Teams to score (1.94)

7) Turkey vs Croatia

Croatia have never lost to Turkey inside the full 90 minutes in 6 encounters. Moreover they have high quality players in every department. Turkey cannot be underestimated as they are coming on the back of some good results, but a creativity in Croatian midfield will do the job for them on Sunday afternoon.

  • Croatia to win (2.13)
  • Over 2.5 goals (2.17)

8) Spain vs Czech Republic

Spain lost 1-0 to a lowly Georgia in their final warm up match, and they don’t look that convincing like in previous years. But Czech Republic are not expected to trouble them and Spain can be backed for an outright win. Goals are likely to remain on the lower side, with Spain likely to keep a clean sheet.

  • Spain to win (1.47)
  • Under 2.5 goals (1.73)

9) Ireland vs Sweden

This is a battle for the third place in this group, unless otherwise last year’s losing finalists Italy make a mess of themselves. Sweden are a one man team, while Ireland are on poor form. To make things worse, Ireland haven’t won against Sweden in a competitive match, losing 4 and drawing 2. This match has little chance to end in a draw and Sweden look like the team to edge this tight encounter.

  • Sweden to win (2.38)
  • Both Teams to Score (2.07)

10) Belgium vs Italy

The young and highly talented Belgium side had lost just 2 games since their exit from World Cup in Brazil. Italy, who knocked out of the group stages on that occasion were unbeaten in the Euro qualification phase, but their form since then is not that impressive. The team also like quality like in previous tournaments and they are expected to struggle against a strong Belgium side. Marc Wilmots’ side are capable of making a deep run into later stages of the tournament and could start off their Euro 2016 campaign with a morale boosting win.

  • Double Chance – Belgium/Draw (1.32)
  • Under 2.5 goals (1.49)

11) Austria vs Hungary

Hungary are making their first Euro Cup appearance since 1972, while Austria are entering the tournament through qualifying round for the first time. Austria only tournament appearance was when they co-hoisted the Euro 2008 alongside Switzerland, where they failed to win a single match. Hungary’s form is nothing special, but Austria are on a poor run and seen struggling against smaller teams lately. They haven’t won against Hungary in the last three meetings and the unpredictable and unorthodox Magyars are likely to grab all three points from Tuesday’s Group F encounter.

  • Under 2.5 goals (1.58)
  • Double Chance – Hungary/Draw (2.00)
  • Handicap Hungary +2 (1.33)

12) Portugal vs Iceland

Portugal are making their sixth consecutive Euro cup appearance and had gone past the group stages on every occasions. Iceland are making their first ever appearance in a major tournament and they were a surprise package in the qualifying rounds. Since then their form has been pretty ordinary and are not expected to spoil the Portuguese party on Tuesday evening. Backing Cristiano Ronaldo to score two or more goals in this match offers good value for money.

  • Portugal Win (1.56)
  • Over 2.5 goals (2.27)
  • Ronaldo to score first (3.38)
