Estudiantes and Santos are about to take on each other in one of the most thrilling encounters of the Matchday No 3 in Copa Libertadores. Both sides will come into the Group 6 derby in high spirits after clinching comprehensive victories over the likes of Nacional and Real Garcilaso in the second round. The Argentines currently hold the very top of the group with four points, while Peixe share the second spot after losing the first match away at Real Garcilaso back in early-March.
Los Pincharratas are generally very hard to beat in front of the home crowd this season. Lucas Bernardi’s men have won five on the bounce on the hoe patch across competitions, but the streak came to end last time out when Godoy Cruz surprisingly took the spoils from La Plata (0-1 win). The team is yet to concede after two rounds in the group, but they’ll come into this off the back of a 3-3 draw away at Velez Sarsfield in Argentine Superliga.
The attacking line has been functioning very well for Bernardi’s side so far in the season. Juan Otero has been the standout performer lately. The Colombian striker has notched seven goals in 14 appearances in Superliga and he was on target in the mentioned weekend’s draw with Velez Sarsfield.
The season in Brazilian Serie A has not started yet, but Peixe have had a super strong test in Campeonato Paulista A 1 recently. Jair Ventura’s men were unlucky to fail it losing the semifinal tie against Palmeiras on the away goal rule (2-2 on aggregate).

We have to see the hosts as favourites to back up the fine start in this term of Copa Libertadores.
