Espanyol vs Leganes
Spanish La Liga
Date: Friday, 4 January 2019
Kick-Off at 20:00 UK / 21:00 CET
Venue: RCDE Stadium (Cornella de Llobregat).
Leganes went five points away from danger area after a thread of five straight league games without a defeat. They are now only two points shy of Espanyol in 14th place coming into their fixture on Friday evening at RCDE Stadium. The head coach Mauricio Pellegrino can be thrilled with team’s defensive displays of late. The Legionaries allowed only one goal in past four outings across competitions even though they played the likes of Celta Vigo and Sevilla in last two Primera Division rounds.
Pellegrino’s men were even just seconds away from snatching a big Sevilla scalp on previous Matchday, but Wissam Ben Yedder hit the late stoppage-time equalizer to save Los Rojiblancos a point at Butarque. Midfielder Mikel Vesga previously put Leganes in front five minutes into the game. Can the visitors keep the fine defensive form going and keep their net untouched here against struggling Espanyol?
Teams have two wins apiece coming into their fifth head to head encounter.
Espanyol won both of H2H games in the 2016/17 La Liga campaign, but Leganes earned the domestic double over the Budgerigars in the previous term of the competition.
Just one of four H2H matches saw goals scored at both ends.
Espanyol will be desperate to shift their fortunes around after a dreadful form in December. They lost six consecutive league games to drop down to 14th place after a dream start to the season. Rubi’s men conceded three or more goals in four of past five league matches and we can’t see them as favourites here against Leganes.
The value is massive with the visitors who are undefeated in last four outings on the road in all competitions. The Legionaries kept their net untouched in three of these four fixtures and are well worth backing to keep a clean sheet here at the sky-high 3.75 odds.
