Espanyol vs Cadiz
Spanish Copa del Rey
Date: Tuesday, 4 December 2018
Kick-Off at 20:30 UK / 21:30 CET
Venue: RCDE Stadium (Cornella de Llobregat).
Cadiz made this last 32 round tie super interesting after beating Espanyol 2-1 in the first leg at Estadio Ramon de Carranza. Alvaro’s men got off to a flying start with the first-minute goal from striker Dejan Lekic. Javi Puado foumnd the equalizer 35 minutes later, but Karim Azamoum regained the lead for the Yellow Submarine just before the break. There were no goals in the second half meaning the rematch promises quite an entertaining affair on Tuesday night at RCDE Stadium.
The hosts are obviously favourites given they are playing a lower-division outfit. Nonetheless, their form does not quite promise a pleasant evening for the local fans in Cornella de Llobregat. The Budgerigars have been unusually easy to break down of late. They allowed five goals in back-to-back defeats to Sevilla and Girona to drop down to 5th in the Primera Division ladder. Whilst the 2-1 loss to Los Rojiblancos away at Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan can be justified, it’s hard to find an explanation for the poor defensive effort in a 1-3 home loss to the likes of Girona after the international break.
Espanyol vs Cadiz: Head-to-head
The match played in late-October was the first H2H meeting between these two likes in last 12 years.
It is interesting to note that Cadiz gained advantage in the head to head record with the aforementioned 2-1 victory at Ramon de Carranza.
The Yellow Submarine won three and lost two of five matches against the Budgerigars.
Espanyol vs Cadiz: Prediction
The visitors gained the momentum after the cup victory over a top-flight opposition. They’ve won all four league games ever since to make it six victories on the spin in total coming into this mid-week match at RCDE Stadium.
Alvaro can be thrilled with his team’s home form in recent outings. Cadiz scored an impressive 14-goal tally in last four league matches. Manu Vallejo was the main catalyst to such an inspiring thread as he notched a goal in each of last five outings for the Yellow Submarine. He was also on target in the Copa del Rey victory over Real Zaragoza (0-1 on the road) in the previous round.
Knowing about Espanyol’s defensive holes in recent matches, we can hardly see the visitors failing to find the back of the net at least once on Tuesday night in Catalonia.
