The week 16 of the English Premier League witnessed a lot of drama, unexpected victories and new league leaders.
Manchester City momentarily occupied the top position in the league table after their late win against Swansea on Saturday, but Arsenal climbed above them on Sunday before eventually dismantling by Leicester on Monday night with their win over Chelsea.
Bournemouth continue their dream run with a win over Manchester United and Newcastle got an unexpected wins after handing Tottenham their first defeat in 15 matches.
Lets take a look at the top performers who made it into our team of the week.
1. Goalkeeper – Jack Butland (Stoke City)
Butland was Stoke’s saviour in Saturday’s 0-0 draw against Slaven Bilic’s West Ham. Put in a brave performance denying them from scoring. He made a total of 9 saves and 5 claims, with a rating of 9.28. Man of the Match in the evening and is fast proving to be one of the best Premier League goalkeepers, despite his tender age.
2. Defender – Allan Nyom (Watford)
Nyom set up Ighalo with a low cross for his team opener against Sunderland. A commanding performance at the right hand side of the defense earned him a 8.03 rating, with 70% pass success rate and made 5 successful tackles.
3. Defender – Leighton Baines (Everton)
Baines entered the 4th place in the toffees list of most appearances as he played his 264th Premier League game for Everton. Tidy at the back and always helping the attack when necessary. He should have scored when his left footed shot went past Declan Ruud and hit the wood work. He had a pass success rate of 81%.
4. Defender – Ryan Shawcross (Stoke City)
Shawcross was a bit of a bully on Saturday, he controlled his defence line well and made a superb last man tackle that denied West Ham a goal, he made a total of 4 tackles and won 3 aerial dwells, he also managed a shot. He got a rating of 7.46.
5. Defender – Laurent Koscielny (Arsenal)
Kolscielny was superb in their Sunday win against Aston Villa, played well in defence and pushed attack when necessary, he scored a rating of 7.93 with a pass success rate of 90%, he won 2 successful tackles 3 aerial dwells. He also completed 1 dribble and played just 1 shot.
6. Midfielder – Aaron Ramsey (Arsenal)
Ramsey was the best midfielder in the weekend’s Premier League game, he is also the player of the week. Ramsey controlled the midfield in a wonderful manner scoring a rating of 8.15, he had a pass success rate of 91%, winning 5 tackles, 1 aerial dwell and completing dribble. He also manage 3 shots and scored the second goal of the game.
7. Midfielder – Yaya Toure (Manchester City)
The Ivorian was sensational in their 2-1 win against Swansea, he scored a rating of 8.12 and a pass success rate of 93% superb!!! He also completed 5 dribbles, 3 tackles, won 1 aerial dwell and completed 5 shots. He gave the assist that led to the winning.
8. Midfielder – Yohan Cabaye (Crystal Palace)
Cabaye was in charge of the midfield, controlling the balls from all angles. He completed 2 tackles, played 2 shots and had a pass success rate of 81%. Scored the only goal of the match to help Alan Pardew’s side saw off Southampton 1-0 on Saturday.
9. Midfielder – Riyad Mahrez (Leicester City)
Instrumental in the 2-1 routing of Chelsea and things are only getting better for Mahrez and Leicester City as season progresses. His partnership with Vardy has been vital for the Foxes thoughout this season. Been a menace for the Chelsea defense all night with his tricky runs, provided the assist for Vardy for the opening goal before scoring the team’s second with a brilliantly taken shot from inside the box.
10. Forward – Ighalo (Watford)
Ighalo is now like the engine room of Watford; contributing to their goals in almost every Premier League week. The Nigerian born striker was the man of the match with a rating of 8.30. He completed a total of 4 dribbles, 3 tackles and 6 shots. He scored the only goal of the game.
11. Forwarder – Joshua King (Bournemouth)
‘Joshua was a King’ in Bournemouth’s unexpected victory against the Red Devils on Saturday. Scored the winner on the night to round up an impressive display that earned him the Man of the Match.
