Emmen vs Heracles: Prediction
Emmen are slowly toughening themselves up, getting used to the life in Eredivisie. Drenthe-based side are looking to survive this year and remain in the league for third time in history; Away defeat at Groningen put a dent into that but excursions aren’t where they’re doing their best work.
Currently at 14th, the fight continues for Dick Lukkien and his band of merry men as they sit just three points off relegation play off place and first team in jeopardy, VVV Venlo.
Despite being god awful on the road, Lukkien’s boys transform into a capable side when they play in front of their own crowd, with 17 of their 18 points won at JenS Vesting, where they haven’t been beaten since August, surviving even PSV and Feyenoord in the making of their six-game unbeaten run.
Heracles are continuously improving over the years, making step by step advancements when it come to their Eredivisie rank so if they want to continue down the same path they have to snap up, end their bad run of form and catch up to European play offs places.
Heraclieden aren’t that far though, as Frank Wormuth got his lads up to 9th, three points off FC Utrecht and their desired destination.
To do so, their away form must improve. While being far from the worst, the fact that they haven’t won on the side since September 20th should be a cause for concern; that’s six games without an away win, which is kind of mind boggling to me. You would assume that counter-attack based side would do well in these situations…
Emmen’s emergency room is stuffed: Anco Jansen, Desevio Payne, Jan-Niklas Beste, Nick Bakker and Matthias Hamrol are still on the sidelines while Michael Heylen’s serving out his suspension after being sent off v Groningen.
Wormuth has his fair share of troubles, as Mauro Junior, Robin Propper and Jesper Drost joined out-for-a-season Navajo Bakboord in the ambulance.
This will be a close one, no doubt about that. Emmen’s way of playing will make it difficult for Heracles to play on the counter and I can see two sides canceling each other out. Heracles’s games on the road aren’t affairs with lots of goals scored (unless they’ve been battered by Ajax) and considering h2h, I don’t think we’re up for a goal fest. Just because our hosts are good at home, I’m raising the bar on 3.5 goals. Even they haven’t gone beyond that in a while…
If you’re brave enough, go for a draw. As I said before, I can see these two canceling one another. Last time they played here, Emmen dominated the heck of that game but ultimately spent almost an hour chasing Heracles’ lead, ultimately getting a deserved point late in.
