Egypt vs Greece: Preview and Predictions

Egypt vs Greece
International Friendlies
Date: Tuesday, 27 March 2018
Kick-Off at 19:00 UK
Venue: Stadion Letzigrund (Zurich).

Egypt were unlucky to drop the advantage gained by Mohamed Salah’s second-half goal to lose the friendly with Portugal 2-1. Cristiano Ronaldo was the man who stole the show by netting a stoppage-time brace (92nd and 95th minute goals). The Pharaohs will, however, have nice opportunity to boost up the confidence with a success on Tuesday when they are about to meet Greece on the neutral venue (Stadion Letzigrund in Zurich).

Greece have been struggling badly for results over the last couple of years. The World Cup in Russia will be the second consecutive major event without them on the field. The team did manage to reach the playoffs in the European qualifying zone under Michael Skibbe, but only thanks to the fact that Bosnia-Herzegovina have had way too many slip-ups in their respective group.

Greece have revealed how vulnerable they are in the playoffs against Croatia where they were completely powerless (1-4 on aggregate). Skibbe’s men did not fix the impression in Friday’s friendly with Switzerland as well since La Nati have entirely dominated the pitch to pick up a completely deserved 0-1 victory.

The Greeks have huge troubles with the efficiency in the final third (Skibbe does not have an adequate attacking option apart from Marseille’s Konstantinos Mitroglou). We can hardly see them breaking the deadlock past Egypt’s solid defense which has shipped just four goals in six games of their final round in the African WC Qualifiers.

The two teams have not had to chance to lock horns in the past.

Egypt vs Greece: Prediction

Egypt have shown their quality against European champions Portugal on Friday and we see a massive value in backing them to clinch the victory over the struggling Greece side at the sky-high odds of 2.50.

Mohamed Salah has been enjoying a superb form with Liverpool in this term of the Premier League. He has been Egypt’s leading scorer with five goals in six qualifying games in the final round, he has found the net in Friday’s friendly against Portugal, and he could well be the difference maker here.
