Paderborn will be desperate for win when they travel to Düsseldorf where they’ll face off against fellow relegation stragglers in Friday’s Bundesliga skirmish.
Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Paderborn: Match Preview
Fortuna Düsseldorf were left frustrated and annoyed last Sunday night since they needed a last-gasp Kenan Karaman strike to secure a 1-1 draw in a fiercely contested relegation battle after dominating for better part of the away game at Mainz.
Late draw against 05ers was second in a row for Düsseldorf’s Reds and third consecutive undefeated game for Uwe Rosler’s men, who remain four points away from safety, placed 16th on Bundesliga table.
Rheinlanders are yet to celebrate under Rosler at their own ground; since he came in, Fortuna got a point off Eintracht and Hertha Berlin each, having famously dropped a three-goal lead at the half time against Berliners and suffered tough but surely unfair 1-4 defeat against Champions League hopefuls Monchengladbach.
It was yet another disappointing night for Paderborn and their fans as Jorge Mere and Jonas Hector of Cologne pushed them onto another defeat, bringing them one step closer to swift return to Zweite Bundesliga.
That was fourth defeat in a row for Steffen Baumgart and his pupils, their sixth consecutive winless game following their short lived insurgence during transition into 2020 and they’ll need nothing short of miracle to survive in the top tier since they remain dead last, ten points off safety with nine games to go.
Not that it says much but their form on the road is somewhat better than their abysmal recent record at home as Black&Blues picked up four points from same number of trips, narrowly losing during their latest two outings at Munich and fellow strugglers, Mainz.
Usual suspects on Fortuna’s injury list as Dawid Kownacki, Tim Wiesner and Zackary Thomas Steffen still remain on the sidelines.
Sven Michel, Jamilu Collins, Christopher Antwi-Adjej and Streli Mamba are ruled out by Paderborn’s medical team for their latest excursion, with Rifet Kapic and Luca Kilian’s status still unknown at the time of writing.

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Paderborn: Prediction
Rheinlanders have a unique opportunity to put an end to their less than flattering sequence of results against Paderborn. They’re in better form at the moment, playing some really good football under new manager and chances are they’ll ride that wave of goodwill from good performances in recent times, finally get all the spoils and make the relegation race much more interesting.
They’ll do it after the break, though. There’s that pattern that repeat itself throughout the season, both for Fortuna and our unfortunate guests as most of the action happens in the second half following standoff in the first. Something I think we’ll see again, considering the importance of the game for both sides.
