Borussia Monchengladbach are on their way to Düsseldorf where they’ll face an old regional rival, gunning for another win which will help them keep their footing in Bundesliga title race.
Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Borussia Monchengladbach Match Preview
Uwe Rösler is still waiting on his first Bundesliga win as Renato Steffen’s header cancelled out Matthias Zimmermann’s goal to earn ten-man Wolfsburg a point at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf.
Second draw in a row meant rising up above wobbly Werder Bremen but Rheinländer are still not out of the woods; they’re placed 16th, out of automatic relegation but still faced with a prospect of relegation playoffs as Mainz increased their points total so safety is now four points away.
Eleven of their seventeen points Fortuna has won in Düsseldorf, making them just a hair better than worst of the worst with last of them coming on during the last days of 2019; since then, they’re played two games at Merkur Spielarena and got a point off Eintracht, losing to god-awful Werder in the process.
The game between Borussia and 1. FC Cologne last Sunday has been cancelled due to safety concerns as Storm Sabine reaches Germany so the Foals are coming into this one with fresher legs, eager for football and another three points which will keep them in the race for Meisterschale; Borussia currently sit at 4th, with game in hand and four points away from Bayern and the top.
On the road, Monchengladbach has been so-so. Four wins, same number of defeats, including two draws isn’t that bad of a record to have but not when you’re challenging for highest honors; to make the matters a tad worse, the Prussians are without a win in last five outings, with three defeats and two draws to their name, the last one being against RBL where they’ve dropped two-goal lead.
Andre Hoffmann is suspended while Kaan Ayhan, Dawid Kownacki, Tim Wiesner, Zackary Steffen and Kenan Karaman are all out of commission for Rheinländers.
Mönchengladbach‘s Alassane Plea will sit this one out after seeing red in v Leipzig. Ramy Bensebaini is only one certain absentee for a trip to Düsseldorf while the jury’s still out for bunch of players: Marcus Thuram, Christoph Kramer, Lászlo Bénes, Tony Jantschke and Florian Mayer.

Fortuna Dusseldorf vs Borussia Monchengladbach Prediction
These Rheinland derbies are rarely boring affairs. The last one certainly wasn’t as it took everything for Borussia to turn it around and celebrate another victory over naughty neighbors. I think we’re in for a répète. Couple of goals. Maybe even red card or two.
And for the truly brave among you, I’d put a few bucks on this game ending at stalemate. Fortuna under Uwe Rösler looks much more organized and dangerous side though they lack some class in the final third. Another reason for this recommendation is Monchengladbach dreadful away form, especially recently and if they failed to beat Hertha or Union, I can see them having hard time against local rival.
