Dundalk vs KI Klaksvik
UEFA Europa League
Date: Thursday, 1 October 2020
Kick-off at 19:30 UK/ 20:30 CET
Venue: Oriel Park.
Football in Faroe Islands is still considered to be in its developing stage, and teams from there are usually the whipping boys for other squads in major competitions.
Props to Mikkjal Thomassen’s men for having reached this far, but they are in no shape to take on an Irish heavyweight like the Lilywhites, let alone on the road.
Filippo Giovagnoli’s men are the reigning champions of the Ireland Premier Division, and they had done it in style. En route to the title, they had conceded goals at a rate of just 0.5 per game, and scored at more than 2 per fixture.
They had a lead of 11 points over arch-rivals Shamrock Rovers, who had finished second, and a lead of 26 points over the third-placed Bohemians.
They are now just 90 minutes away from placing themselves in the Europa League mix, and at no cost will they let a team from the lowly Faroe Islands to disrupt their plans.

Dundalk vs KÍ: Prediction
The Lilywhites had won four of their former five overall games, and two of these wins had come in the Europa League qualifiers.
At home, they have been at their best over the course of the last year. In fact, they have lost just once at this venue since August of 2019, and even that defeat 13 months back had come in the EL.
Meanwhile, their counterparts were winless in two of their preceding five games, and remained so in two of their last three road trips.
Most importantly, their major handicap is the fact that they are from the Faroese top flight, and to further pile on, they are on the road as well.
There’s little to no chance for Thomassen’s men to progress further. Expect Dundalk to record a comfortable win this Thursday.
