DR Congo vs Gabon
African Cup of Nations Qualification
Date: Saturday, 4 June 2022
Kick-off at 17:00 UK / 18:00 CET
Venue: Stade des Martyrs.
DR Congo is set to host to the visiting Gabon in a match of Round 1 in Group I at Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, this Saturday at Stade des Martyrs in Kinshasa.
DR Congo have been ranked as high as 28th in the FIFA Rankings. The Leopards were the first Sub-Saharan African team to qualify for the FIFA World Cup and twice won the Africa Cup of Nations. But recently, they have been very inconsistent with just 5 wins in their last 16 matches across all competitions since mid-January 2021.
A 5-2 aggregate defeat to Morocco in the CAF 2022 FIFA World Cup Playoffs was the Democratic Republic of Congo’s most recent outing in the March International break. They were then eliminated from the WC qualifiers and are currently on a 3-game winless run. The hosts will need to be near-perfect once again if they are to feature at the 2023 AFCON.
On the other side, Gabon have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but have qualified 8 times for the Africa Cup of Nations. They however got eliminated from the second round of WC qualifiers paving way for Egypt to advance. The visitors have seen netting frequently but they tend to concede more of the same which hints that some defensive adjustments is needed.
Gabon side come into this on the back of a penalty shootout defeat to Burkina Faso in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations in their most recent outing at the start of this year. They are without a win since the last 3 games across various venues.

DR Congo vs Gabon Prediction
DR Congo won only once from their last 7 home games across various competitions. But they won only once from their last 6 h2hs and has a poor h2h record over this rival.
Meanwhile, Gabon lost 7 of their last 9 away games across various tournaments and has been poor on road lately. But they have won the last h2h game by 3 goals, just 2 months back.
We feel that an away win or draw seems a likely outcome for this Saturday.
