Borussia Dortmund vs Slavia Prague
UEFA Champions League – Matchday 6
Date: 10 December 2019, Tuesday
Kick-off at 20:00 UK/ 21:00 Central European Time
Venue: Signal Iduna Park (Dortmund).
Coming to matchday 6 of UEFA Champions League 2019/20 season, Borussia Dortmund must win against Slavia Prague and hope Inter drop points against Barcelona to qualify for the round of 16.
The Bundesliga outfit start matchday 6 level on points with Inter, however they are behind on head-to-head after a 3-2 home win and 0-2 defeat against the Italian side.
Barcelona have already qualified from the group and cannot be caught by any sides in the group, meanwhile Slavia are playing for pride and will finish at the foot of the table even with a win on Tuesday.
Borussia Dortmund vs Slavia Prague Head-to-head Stats (h2h)
The reverse leg in Prague won by Dortmund with a 2-0 score line is the lone competitive meeting between the two sides.
Dortmund are unbeaten against Czech teams since their defeat to Dukla Praha back in 1964. The current streak runs for 10 games with 7 wins and 3 draws.
Slavia Prague hold a poor record against German Bundesliga teams, 3 wins, 3 draws and 7 losses from 13 so far. They lost 5 of their 6 games in German soil with the lone victory happening at Freiburg in 1995.
Borussia Dortmund vs Slavia Prague Prediction
Dortmund come to this game on the back of an unbeaten home record across all competitions this season. They are on an excellent scoring form as well and average 2.8 goals per game in front of their home crowd. The only team that managed to keep a clean sheet at the Signal Iduna park this season is Barcelona in the goal-less stalemate back in September.
The weekend saw Dortmund brushing aside Dusseldorf 5-0 and move up to second in the Bundesliga standings.
Slavia Prague are runaway leaders of Czech 1.Liga and hold a massive 14 points lead over second placed Viktoria Plzen. However, things haven’t worked out well for this in the Champions League and they come into matchday 6 without registering a win.
Yet, they managed to pick up two priceless draws against Barcelona and Inter Milan, which put them on an unbeaten away run. These results were built on the back of some resilient defensive tactics, but one must doubt if this will work against a more direct attacking team like Dortmund.
I believe Jindrich Trpisovsky’s strategy will not work against a team like BVB, whose attacking front have found some rhythm of late. One main reason for this is Lucien Favre have the experience of preparing his team against sides similar to Slavia’s high-pressure defensive approach every week and this match will not see a result other than a Dortmund win.
However, we are too short on odds for a home win and therefore we must look into goal markets to boost the odds. Even though, Slavia have not conceded a lot of goals this season, things could go different if the Germans manage to get a first goal here.
With the likes of Marco Reus and Jadson Sancho in excellent scoring touch, coupled with the creative mind of Thorgan Hazard and Witsel Axel, over 2.5 goals with a home win looks like the best option for this game. It will be worth to note that, Dortmund were wasteful in the reverse leg in Prague when they won 2-0.
However, Slavia will get their chances as well and therefore I am brave enough to back both teams to score in second half for juicy 3.80 odds.
