Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke: Match Preview
Lousy night of football for Dortmund’s fans as the Black & Yellows, despite winning the first leg of their last-16 tie against Paris St. Germain 2-1, have lost the return fixture 2-0 which means elimination from this year’s edition of the UEFA Champions League.
Back on the home front, with another win in Borussen derby, the Yellows of Dortmund pushed RB Leipzig down to third and now are Bayern’s closest competitors for the Meisterschale, with four points dividing two German giants.
Borussia’s terrific 2020 form is still a thing, with Lucien Favre’s men getting their fourth consecutive win, eight in nine league games this year; in front of their Yellow Wall, Der BVB are still undefeated, boasting more than impressive record of nine wins and three draws and currently are on four-game winning run since that ridiculous 3-3 tie v Leipzig.
The Royal Blues were the better side for much of the game but sadly Weston McKennie’s goal wasn’t enough for all three points during last Saturday’s clash against Hoffenheim as Christoph Baumgartner’s second-half goal meant that the two sides had to share the points in the VELTINS Arena.
That was just a continuation of their torment as David Wagner’s pupils are still waiting on a win since January and their snatch-and-grab victory over Monchengladbach and it’s truly wondrous how the Royal Blues kept their sixth place on Bundesliga table so far despite their seven-game winless run.
Things get tad bit worse should we dare take a look into their away form as the Blues remain winless since November and trip over to one of the worst sides in the league, making that six outings from which their fans travelled back with their heads down with the most recent case being one of the most shameful ones as Wagner’s men laid their weapons in Cologne, losing 3-0 in the process.
Borussia Dortmund have almost clean bill of health, with only Marco Reus missing out of this derby whilst Schalke’s ever expanding injury report currently include Suat Serdar, Ozan Kabak, Omar Mascarell, Juan Miranda, Daniel Caligiuri, Salif Sané and probably Benjamin Stambouli.

Borussia Dortmund vs Schalke: Prediction
Having been knocked out of the Champions League, Dortmund will now be 100% focused on the league and with Bundesliga title still in the cards, they’ll surely take Schalke 04 seriously and make a quick work off injury-ravaged rivals.
One fun thing to notice, pretty much every Dortmund’s defeat this season is followed by a show of force and convincing triumph, with at least four goals scored and knowing the state of the Royal Blues’ defense, I’d stake my life on history repeating itself.
