Cristiano Ronaldo is no longer invincible at Real Madrid

Real Madrid ace Cristiano Ronaldo left a delusional figure after the Los Blancos were humbled by Sevilla in the La Liga clash. The three times Balon d’or winner was rather anonymous all throughout the match, a shadow of the player who has been in previous seasons. He looked out of touch, blunt and reluctant to get involved with the play.

Real Madrid were rather unfortunate in their visit to Sanchez Pizjuan, the game they controlled in the initial quarters slipped out of their favor after Ramos was taken out injured, leaving a huge hole in the defense.

No one can argue that the turnaround was in emphatic fashion and Sevilla controlled the match completely in the second half leaving no breathing space for the Real Madrid super-stars. Moreover, Sevilla was a team that was struggling in the league this season, fresh from the thrashed by Manchester City a couple of days ago, brought embarrassment to Real Madrid and Benitez.

Once gain for all the wrong reasons, Cristiano Ronaldo is in the spotlight. It is time for Rafa Benitez to call the shots on whether he wants to keep an ineffective player on the field for the entire ninety minutes or try something different.

It is very evident that things are not working for Ronaldo at the moment. Since the 5-goals against Espanyol, he has just managed to add another 3 goals in the next 8 matches and was a mere spectator on the pitch during the both legs high profile Champions League clash against PSG.

These may be all the start of indications of the fact that he is on the decline as a player and it could be the right time Florentino Perez make the decision to profit from the star who turns 31 at the end of the season.

PSG are reportedly very much interested in him and want to take advantage of any bad atmosphere that surrounds the player to convince him for a move to Paris. A stumbling block is the €100m asking price set by the Los Blancos, but if he fails continuously to lift his performance, PSG may succeed in getting him at a knock-down price.

There has been also constant reports on Ronaldo being played out of situation and is currently unhappy at Rafa’s playing methods. But unfortunately you can’t blame a manager for just employing a system for that helps one of your star player to score plenty of goals. The game involves 11 players and work as a collective units, well that leads to the the term “team players”.

It has been a constant scene in recent weeks that the likes of more effective players on field like those of Isco or Benzema were sacrificed in favor of the Portuguese international.

The poor show at Sanchez Pizjuan could be the beginning of the end of the player as a Galactico. Everything now depends on how long it takes for Benitez to make the brave decision of leaving Ronaldo on the bench, which may start an explosive discussion.
